I see Dave Houghton is back at Derbyshire. Jeez this guy would be good for Zim cricket, such a talented player, highly respected in cricketing circles and a wealth of knowledge,
If we’re going to survive this the rape of our coffers has to cease forthwith and we need serious people to buy time for us and to assist with the long rebuilding process.
What with staff contracts all being withdrawn there are going to be some nervous people out there, handfuls of people with no skills, other than theft, bootlicking and laziness all praying and frantically hoping they are re-employed. It might be time to practice dancing a little jig. It will be fun to visit a couple of them in a year’s time and see how they’re getting on
I see obscurity and financial oblivion in their lives.
The ones with the most dirt on the hierarchy sadly will remain, but there might be a few surprises.

Re: Sean Ervine joins Derbyshire
Surely we could lure him back for one final Test series?
He'd easily slot in the top 6.

Re: Sean Ervine joins Derbyshire
Surely they’d at least ask him the question
I wonder where he will retire? Stay in England or maybe even move to Australia, I’m pretty sure he married Shaun and Mitch Marsh’s sister.
Doubt he’d go back to Zimbabwe

I think he looks done. Sad that they shifted him across to Derbyshire for the end.

Quite a few guys seem to have a slightly ignominious departure from professional cricket. A guy of his ability and longevity should be able to leave on his own terms.
I’ve seen quite a few chaps who’ve played for a decade or more get dropped to twos as part of the first salvo of “we’re about to cut you loose,” which is pretty harsh.
This is a cut-throat business and if you don’t perform for a few games the pressure is real, not nice.

And quite a few players are unprepared for life after cricket. If you haven’t made proper money and don’t have another profession to fall back on you’re poorly placed.

While I do agree with you the main point to bear in mind here is how people/supporters/moaners are always calling for new young players to be brought in, "out with the old buggers and give the young bloods their chance" they all shout, you can't get the newbies in without kicking the older players outGoogly wrote: ↑Mon Sep 03, 2018 7:54 amQuite a few guys seem to have a slightly ignominious departure from professional cricket.
