Vusi maybe an excellent stroke player but I think he is holding us back. Not only does he have potential but he has an entire arsenal of fluent shots. He has been failling at test cricket for what ever reason. I think he should be dropped from the test squad and kept in the limited overs squad. We can't keep hoping for him to turn up one day and score a 100 or even a 50. Don't get me wrong, I am a big Vusi fan but right now he is the weakest link.
Hami or Raza can open in his stead, that is when ever ZC decide to grace us with another test
Should Vusi be in the test team?

Re: Should Vusi be in the test team?
Vusi is the best candidate atm no one else is putting their hand up .....
Hammie is best at 3 and Raza is a middle order player in the longer formats, moving these guys up the order will create more problems than it solves ....
We all agree Vusi needs to improve but untill guys like PJ Moor, Kasuza or Kaia are ready to make the step up we will have to stick with Vusi ....
The other options are Chamu, Matsi, Mutizwa, Maruma or Gavin Ewing but the 1st four are not test match openers and are better suited to the middle order and Ewing has health problems I believe ????

Other than blooding PJ Moor or promoting Hammy there aren't too many options. Vusi tends to score big just as we start talking about dropping him. Our next test isn't for 11 months so there isn't really much point in talking about dropping people.

Re: Should Vusi be in the test team?
He has averaged 17 in 6 tests / 12 innings this year. Its pretty dismal for such a long period especially when you had the golden chance of playing regular cricket and recover lost form. It does not help that the other two of our "Big 3" have done comparatively very well in tests (Taylor despite his horror show in the West Indies).
But no tests for 11 months, no replacement in sight, etc. etc. So, can't think of any ready made options. If Raza wants to take up that role to force his way in, we have to evaluate.
I would like to see Chakabva open in the entire franchise season in all formats for Eagles (if it goes ahead, of course) and stake a claim. He has the ability to stick it out and has a good technique. And that is anyway his only option to get back into the team now that Richie has done well with the gloves.
Moor and Kasuza need do the same stated for Regis for their franchises too.

Re: Should Vusi be in the test team?
shite, 17? that's pretty poor!
I agree with Eugene though in that calls for dropping are out of place but if we're playing "if I were manager" - I guess it'd be interesting to try Williams at 3 (if Hammi agrees - and he should have a say - which, considering he sent in Prosper, he may not agree to) and have Hammi open with Tino. Otherwise I quite like the idea of Chaks spending a season learning to open (he did fail in his only attempt so far).
but Vusi now has a fair bit of experience, and there's no substituting that...

Vusi seems to be low on confidence. He failed in his 1st match at Dhaka PL too.
