Totally agree about the nucleus, Eugene.
Chatara is injured, that's a big miss.
What's up with Solomin Mire ? I do rate him. Has he quit or still around or possibility of a comeback ?

Will reserve my opinion till after the current ODI series is finished although no result will change that opinion.

I was about to ask that yesterday. How do our guys on the ground rate him? As a batsmen and as a keeper.eugene wrote:How good is Gumbie?

Re: Is it time to clean house?
As a batsman he is great and i think he is a true top order batsman bats anywhere between 1 and 4. As a keeper he is better than average. His height is an issue , so as his technique but he has safe hands. I think time that he will spend on free community service with Wayne James and the ZIM A squad will improve his skill set. Trevor Dollar may push him hard for the gloves at the eagles this year.

Re: Is it time to clean house?
I agree, but I'd go younger than 25. Pick 17/18/19yo's and see if they've got what it takes. Rotate through a few until we find a decent one. We only need one Masakadza/Taylor type to come through and we'd be pretty excited.CrimsonAvenger wrote:Seems like such clear common sense. Not sure why no one at ZC can think on these simple lines.Jemisi wrote:Yes - pick the best 5 or 6 batsmen and stick with them. Then pick ONE under twenty five player to expose. Gumbie, Burl, etc.
Keep Cremer, Panyangara, Chatara if he ever gets back and pick ONE under twenty five seamer to expose. Musoko etc.
Zimbabwe needs hope more than anything. If Masakadza could do it in 2001, why can't a teenager now surprise us all with an unexpected hundred?
Hell, we don't even need a century to give us hope. A solid 60 would have us all jumping on a new mania.
Re: Is it time to clean house?
I have read read with astonishment some submissions on this forum that try to question Malcom's call up for the Bangla tour, well, I would like to think that the bloke EARNED his slot through sweat and purely on merit. No body scores back to back tons & doesn't catch the selector's eye.
Lets support & back Malcom, something similar to how Australia backed Adam Voges as he struggled all through the recent Ashes.

So if we can essentially agree on the nucleus, who are the young players waiting in the wings?
Joylord Gumbie, PJ Moor, Kevin Kasuza, Ryan Burl, Brandon Diplock, Tendai Chisoro, Wellington Masakadza, Tinotenda Mutombodzi...

Neil Johnson, Alistair Campbell, Murray Goodwin, Andy Flower (w), Grant Flower, Dave Houghton, Guy Whittall, Heath Streak (c), Andy Blignaut, Ray Price, Eddo Brandes
Re: Is it time to clean house?
Zimbabwe is a small nation with limited resources so we cant afford to loose the few quality players we have, lets face it if Williams, Ervine or Cremer could get a County deal they would flee too so I just don't know how we turn it around .....
Yeah sure throw in these young guys but as I said if they turn into really good players they'll probably take off .....
Feeling very pessimistic today ......

Wellington, Burl and Gumbie are the best chances out of that lot. Although I know next to nothing about Diplock.eugene wrote:So if we can essentially agree on the nucleus, who are the young players waiting in the wings?

Agree. Hopefully some new names emerge this domestic season - batsmen in particular.
