Re: Zimbabwe Squad for Sri Lanka

It's a bit overwhelming to read so much of stuff but I have to say I partially agree with everyone. SZ, Pat_bee, Googly, Taps and others everyone has valid arguments.

Guys we need to just calm down here. There are problems with the board and we all know that, but all the blame cannot be put on the board alone, they may not have done so many good things at grass root level, and structural level but at the same time there are things they have done right but they didn't work out well. For example board got Ballance back, it's not their fault that he fucked up. They invested in Madhevere, Myers and the likes it's not their fault that one never developed while the other just ran away. They got Jarvis and Brendan back, it's not their fault that one got a career ending injury while Brendan fucked up in the worst manner possible.

There are problems with the board and the way it's run but at the same time, the players too have let the team down and cannot always get away with it.

I think crastle_cog made a brilliant point that Heath Streak was the best of the lot and IF the board had shown some patience at the time in 2018,.things might have been vastly different. That Rajput period from 2018 to early 2022 was a disaster. The same period under Streaky might have been a huge step in the right direction, it could also have meant Zimbabwe playing the 2021 T20 WC because they wouldn't have got suspended, and probably would have retained some promising talent.

Anyways, what has happened has happened. We are probably not looking at immediate success but guys, we've got to stay hopeful. There are some important games coming up, including the U19 WC and we've got to hope that things will be on the up.

Raza didn’t even go to school in Zim  can’t be blaming the schools for him holing out in successive qualifiers. What’s next in the firing line? Mazoe not being as refreshing as Gatorade and that’s why the boys failed miserably ?
So what do you think the problem is and what's your suggestion to fix it?
The players and their mentality are the problem. To them they’ve made it with a pro50 contract or a national contract if they dream big. The end goal is one of these secure contracts that can feed their family. They get comfortable being big fish in a small pond and very few have the drive to better their game so long as their wage keeps rolling in.

All this talk about PTSD from the Scotland game, are they having a laugh? Seasoned pros crying in a safe space behind the nets how Scotland did some mean and horrible things six months ago. But they didn’t even learn from that against Uganda, just produced the same rubbish. The way they talk though you’d think they’d done a solid year at the sharp end in the bush war and seen some truly awful things.

At the top level it’s 5% skills/95% mentality and that’s where these boys are lacking. I don’t know what the solution to that problem is. I do however doubt it’s in bowling machines, schools having 3 ovals each or that guy who wants like 600 pros spread across 5 franchises on 12 month contracts. None of that will make a difference if the boys are weak and can’t hack it.

Pat is just trolling.

I’m more concerned by Taps’ view on this tbh.

All you ever read on here is ZC this, quota that, bias the other. Never these boys are soft and quite frankly shit.

The board have done a tremendous amount of good post covid but cop flak because raza holed out twice in six months and god forbid anyone calls the star man out for what he is.

Well that's not true. Secret, Taps and I have some differences but we are on the same page on a number of issues. We've pointed most of them out, yet you clearly don't agree and you're a long way from the coal face.

And never offer an opinion as to a solution in amongst the yo dawgs.
We've been critical of Raza's captaincy and some dumb shots that he's holed out to, but been very grateful for the massive good he's done for our cricket. Plus he's a great bloke and when he's in full flight he's amazing.
