When I say they will take everything with them if you get rid of them I am not talking about money they will steal. What I mean is that you will set up the mother of all court battles which will take 8 years to resolve. Anybody who actually lives in Zimbabwe will tell you that the court system is a mess. Its simply not worth it. No player will wait that long.
There is no dice to roll here. The game will die with no money its as simple as that. We are talking about a sport which the majority population are not interested in. In a country with an economy in tatters. There is no corporate support. No big crowds unless its free. No government funding. The game will not last 1 month without the ICC. Cricket will DIE just like other sports like basketball and hockey. People who play for love can only take you so far.
Doing ANYTHING that jeopardises the money and thinking we will survive is wishful thinking. Cricket is probably 3rd or 4th when it comes to favourite sports in Zimbabwean schools. Even private schools. Soccer, Rugby and even Basketball are far more popular.
The only reason why people are actually interested in cricket is because we used to go to the World Cup and we actually play the best teams in the world. Take the funding away and get us playing against Uganda and thats it. This is exactly why people stopped playing tennis. Tennis was extremely popular in the early 2000s when we were actually good. Now nobody cares because we struggle against random countries.
The players showed all of us in July that the most important thing for them is the money. NOBODY will stick around. Why dont you guys who know players ask them if they are willing to risk ICC funding or they would rather continue this way
I am all for Heath Streak getting what he is owed but I am not going to support him possibly killing the game. There are board elections next year. Instead of dissolving them why dont you find a smart way to contest the next elections just like Mukuhlani did to Manase.
The ICC will ask everybody that question and nobody has an answer to it so far. Why cant you wait till next year? Why not be pushing for transparent elections instead?
Kirsty Coventry will be the scapegoat when all of this goes south if she does this. They will pull the race card even though she is not a racist. They will do it anyway. You will get David Coltart being the first person to congratulate her for doing that which will piss off even more ZANU people. The money will dry up and people will walk out. Everybody will cry sabotage. Top chefs will intervene and they will get reinstated.
Its so sad how people always play right into these guys hands. Every single bloody time. A white minister taking the side of fired white coaching staff and supported by a white ex minister. Do you see how that looks? I warned people earlier this year why diplomacy is important and how bad our selection policies looked. You guys ignored and look what happened. I am warning people again and this time it will be 10x worse.
The president can only do so much to protect Kirsty Coventry. She has no actual political power. The ZANU PF system is still the same. They protect each other. One of those people you want locked up and out of the picture has a very powerful relative with a lot of money who is politically connected. I think this will cancel out whatever link Streak has and it will be a 5 year long court stalemate whilst our cricket dies.
Lets wait and see what happens
SRC to dissolve ZC Board
Re: SRC to dissolve ZC Board
Death may be better at this point. Following Zimbabwe from one disaster to another has got old. Perhaps it is time to close the book and just fondly remember yesteryear.

Re: SRC to dissolve ZC Board
Sorry, but that post is typical Zim nonsense.
1) Tennis did not die because of popularity. It died because of who took over the running of the sport. It died because when tennis was doing well, people came in trying to steal the money. I know more about the tennis scene than you actually think.
2) 'Why not wait till elections and get voted in'....When has democracy ever worked in Zimbabwe in the last 20 years? This argument about waiting for elections is nonsense. People steel, pillage, rig, backstab etc, yet everyone wants to do things democratically and by law. Bullshit. The ones saying this only say so because the shoe fits, but if it suits them, they will backstab you and steal the election.
3) Selection policies should never be about race. End of. Zhuwai did not deserve his spot. Get over that fact and move on from it. He is a bit part player who does not deliver when needed. If we had an orange oompa loompa who was scoring runs and averaging 40-50, I would take them in the team. It does not matter the skin colour or race, all that matters is the badge on the front of the shirt. Will they represent it and fight for it? Will they perform at their best? Will they give their all? Are they talented and hard working?
4) Streak is not killing the game. He did not steal the money and run the game in to the ground. Stop attacking the wrong people.
5) If the president has no power, then what is the point. Might as well get rid of him and just become a military dictatorship like North Korea, and close ourselves off to the world.

Re: SRC to dissolve ZC Board
Look I am not arguing about what is correct and what is not correct. I'm not arguing about the real problems. This where we usually don't get each other. I'm not an idiot and i'm not a troll. I fully agree with most of what people are saying and i want them gone too. I'm simply telling you what they are going to do when they fight back as wrong as it is and it will work because the one thing people don't get in this forum is that in 3rd world countries it's never about who is standing up for justice and who is right.
Usually when i'm talking I am pointing out the end result not the cause. Obviously the thieves are the problem but you don't attack people unless you have FULL control of the situation and you can control it quickly.
Do people really they don't know what the SRC is trying to do? You think they will just sit back and go quietly? The game is going to suffer terribly because of this.
When it comes to the elections we dont even know the process but here we are complaining. Why don't we figure that out first? If the ministry is on our side why would free elections not be possible? Do you think the ICC would support rigged elections?
People don't understand how the ruling party keeps winning. Its absolutely nothing like a cricket election.

I'm not arguing either. Us 'first worlders' do understand third world countries more than 'third worlders' make us out to be.
Coventry can have full control of the situation. She has been put in her position for that very reason. To have full control and to effect the change needed.
When has there been a fair process with regards to the elections or ZC? Since 2003, has anything been normal? It all started with the race card, and ever since then, there has been no structure, normality, or anything able to be figured out. This is why starting from scratch if the best bet.
If you have cancer you can remove, you remove it, you don't leave it in and continually just let it go and hope that the placebo you've been feeding it will do the trick.
ICC are one of the most corrupt organisations. They will only serve their interests and no one else. They have supported this corrupt and thieving regime until now, why would they stop.

You are right about the ICC being corrupt. Unfortunately it looks like we will die no matter what we do.

Re: SRC to dissolve ZC Board
I wonder whether the Zim base is stronger than say Kenya or Namibia. Like, when cricket is truly dead - what does it look like?
There's obviously quite a lot of cricket fans in Zim, HSC is pretty full regularly enough to show that. So there's interest... who do they start supporting when Zim is in division 8 with Cayman Islands? Would South Africa sense an opportunity and play a few home games in Harare?
Or is the Zim base - eg. the private school kids who play a bit, graduate and get a job... would they be happy enough to play a few games a year as amateurs? And if so, are those players good enough that we'll never be at the Cayman Islands level and we'll never sink below the top 20? (eg. there and about ODI status)
Curious to hear what you guys think the doomsday scenario is.

Re: SRC to dissolve ZC Board
The real problem is that the private school kids, where cricket is the strongest, all leave Zim after school. With the state of the economy and the better university options outside of the country they just disappear.

Re: SRC to dissolve ZC Board
Of the few that stay and work in some random Harare business, how good are they at cricket? That's the real question here. If Joe Blow from St John's is a better a cricketer than whoever is currently playing for Namibia or Kenya then Zim's bottoming out might not be as disastrous as we think as we'll always be thereabouts for ODI status.
