[Match Thread] Zimbabwe XI v Ireland (Intercontinental Cup)
Re: [Match Thread] Zimbabwe XI v Ireland (Intercontinental C
Day 1 Close 1 Ireland on 340/6. Tomorrow's morning session will be crucial, otherwise we might be in danger of losing first innings points. No panic stations yet, a century and 2 fifties from Sibanda, Williams and Mutizwa will settle the nerves, so no pressure

The thing to bear in mind is that we can still reach the final with a draw here (if we beat Scotland or get given the points if the match isn't played); Ireland need all 20 points here to keep their chance alive. Pressure's still on them, then.

A talented batsman but a modest, hardworking character, Stuart Matsikenyeri is the third of three school friends from Churchill Boys High School, Harare to represent Zimbabwe in international cricket. - Cricinfo.

I'm guessing/hoping it is a pretty flat track out there.
We just need to bat and bat and bat.

Things went a bit downhill after my departure to work yesterday, even the nice ct Sibanda, ct Sibanda, ct Sibanda changed to ct Chakabva, ct Chakabva, ct Chakabva
He may have been injured of course, but i hope the decision to have Mushangwe in rather than Maruma doesn't backfire, especially against a side as experienced as the Irish, i'm still not really sure why Zim are in this competition, is it to give fringe and younger players some international experience or is it to win the Intercontinental Cup ?
A reasonable start today with Masakadza taking 2 wickets, one of them ct Sibanda
Ireland currently 367-8 leaving a lot of work for Sibanda, Chakabva, Dabengwa, Marillier, Williams, Matsikenyeri and Mutizwa to do if the Irish are to be stopped from taking the 6 first innings points

It's a shame nobody turned up. If ZC weren't expecting a crowd, why not play in Bulawayo? They've been crying out for more international matches.White dismissal at 10:29 AM Slightly slower ball, nipped back and actually took leg stump. End of an excellent innings. Just a pity there are no spectators to applaud him in.

Strictly speaking, the former. As fans, we of course want the latter as well.Train Driver wrote:i'm still not really sure why Zim are in this competition, is it to give fringe and younger players some international experience or is it to win the Intercontinental Cup ?

Ireland past 400 now.
Y'know, knowing the frailty of our batting, I have fears of Ireland winning this after making us follow-on, depending on if the batsmen show up or not. You can never guarantee that anyone will pull a "Sibanda vs Kenya" innings.
