Surprised the forum isn't in meltdown. Potentially the biggest Zim cricket news item of the year happening right now and not a lot of activity given the circumstances.
We need a Googly, a jimmylesaint, a dramatic re-emergence of a zimdan, or one of our other friends on the ground in Zim... someone to offer some additional insight on this big news story.

Jarvis seems to have closed off all doors, which is really sad as he is definitely our best bowler by a mile. I hope that whatever county contracts Zim players have, especially Taylor, they can still play for Zim, and that the ZC management and Whatmore too are working hard to keep players and actually move forward like they have been promising for ages.aydee wrote:
Sort of. Obviously if you are an "official" overseas player then you can represent your country. However, if you are pretending to be from the EU in order to play as a non-overseas player, you have to accept the downside of that decision as well. ECB would love to disallow Kolpaks completely, but EU employment law doesn't allow them too. There are financial incentives for counties to field England qualified players, so they encourage the counties not to employ Kolpaks.
That said, from a Zim perspective, if Ervine, Jarvis (and now possibly Taylor) didn't void their county contracts by playing for Zim, they may well still be available for the national team.
I am upset. If Taylor leaves, then Zim cricket goes back 100 steps. We lose our test captain, and potentially will lose the likes of Ervine and Williams i reckon. After what seemed to be a very bright tunnel, it looks like everything is just going dark again.brmtaylor.com admin wrote:Surprised the forum isn't in meltdown! The worst thing is the lack of media coverage on zim, particularly form ZCs own media team. We have barely seen anything about the team and such in what is the biggest tournament in the game.

It's too scary to imagine the Zimbabwe team without Taylor. Masakadza and Williams are good support acts, but neither of those guys can take a game by the scruff of its neck - be a match winner - the way Taylor can.
Yeah. The captain getting a county contract is big news, there should be some acknowledgement one way or another. The worst thing is the lack of media coverage on zim, particularly form ZCs own media team. The board should be in meltdown. I am a long time lurker but regular reader. To be honest, I just kind of feel 'good luck to him'. If he is a kolpak, so be it. He has a wife and family. I am tired of being let down and investing emotionally. It is kind of pointless. I am also not surprised, why would he stick around. Maybe others feel like I do. It is more of a shrug of a shoulders and 'what's next'?.

With anyone else, perhaps. But for 10 years Brendan Taylor has represented hope for the Zimbabwe cricket team. It doesn't matter what the match situation is - if Taylor is still batting, or he's yet to bat, then Zimbabwe still has a chance. They're just one "last ball six" or "cool, calm and collected 60 not out" or "pair of centuries" away from a win.ZIMFAN wrote:The board should be in meltdown. Sums up my feeling to the fullest too.ZIMFAN wrote:The board should be in meltdown. I am a long time lurker but regular reader. To be honest, I just kind of feel 'good luck to him'. And this is what I wrote about him 7 years back when he was not handed national contract and nothing much has changed since:
More than 4 years have passed since the departure of Streak's rebels, and if you want to write a sentence about Zimbabwean Cricket since then, with the words "Zimbabwe" and "success" in it, you would invariably have the word "rare" also appear in it, if it is a negative one, and if it is a positive one it would definitely have the word "Taylor" in it.
That's how synonymous Zim's success and Brendan Taylor have been. Sure, Taibu in his two stints has played a few extremely good knocks, return of Brent earlier and Price later have provided the much needed experience to the bowling department, and Sean Williams has emerged as by far the best batsman of the side. And, there have been flashes of brilliance shown by a few others too. But Taylor's impact right from 2004 has been phenomenal

Agree with the sentiments above CrimsonAvenger, and as you said not much has changed since then either.
I can't think of too many games where Zim have got over the line without Taylor making a notable contribution.

I guess the news isn't all that surprising. We have been talking about the possibility of an exodus post-World Cup for awhile now. John Ward has no additional insight at this stage other than saying he presumes he would be released for international duties.

Congrats to BT!
Can't wait to see him play, hopefully this is just temporary and that he will still be available for Zimbabwe.
My initial thoughts are that it's just a temporary contract to cover for some of the injured batsmen Nott's have, I don't think it's permanent, BT doesn't strike you as the type to just pack it all in, We shall see I spose...
Now it's just a matter of time before someone snaps up Sean Williams!
