I remember once saying a lot of our players took maybe 100 odd international games or about 5 years to become reliable. I just realized Burl crossed the 100 game mark this year. He has also been playing for about 6 years. Looks a completely different player these days from about 12 months ago.

1 can only hope Wes eventually gets it right. He has played 80 international games now in just over 3 years. He will probably cross the 100 game mark this year if we qualify for the World Cup. Crazy to think he is only 22 whilst Burl is 29. There is just a lack of maturity in his game. They have bet the house on him. The pressure will start showing soon. Maybe elevating him straight into the national team wasn't a good idea.

I've always said that players need 3000-4000 First class runs before they're really ready for international cricket, and ideally they'd be in their mid-to-late 20's before debuting. But it's just not practical in Zimbabwe to plug away in domestic cricket for so long without getting a national contract, especially if you have other options out there such as County cricket etc.

But for the likes of Innocent Kaia and Joylord Gumbie who have taken that path to international cricket, they seem more ready for this stage, more so than the likes of Marumani, Shumba and Wes of course. My predication is that Wes won't become consistent until around the age of 27, and from that point he'll start to get better and better, much like Williams, Raza, Ervine & BT as well.

This was the smackdown I was hoping for against a minnow.

And I caught flak when I suggested he be dropped from the test side.

Another thing to remember with Wes, is that he initially had all of his success batting at No.5 or No.6 but now seems to be exclusively a top order player.

Interesting that Williams batted at No.3 twice this tournament, it might be worth Wes dropping back to No.4 or even 5 for now to get his touch back.

Timing. At the time it was the right call...just like quarantine, masking, and social distance was always the right call in the first years of the pandemic (to minimize hospitalizations and maximize survival rates).

To be fair, playing Wez can still be the right call, because you don't want a situation where he, Myers, Marumani, Shumba, etc are thrust into the first XI around 2025 with very few caps between them and expected to take over from Williams-Raza and Co.

BT was averaging 30+ in ODIs even from an early age, IIRC. Granted he most played vs Bangladesh and Kenya back then. Williams and Raza really have levelled up past age 27. Ervine seems to be much more stable.

You've been biden your time to come out with that. I see you're now a Pfizer snake oil salesman  .
None of that shit worked or was necessary and everybody knows it. The sad part is there are no repercussions for the c£#s who put the world on hold for 2 years and made a shit ton of money. Well they've moved onto obliterating Russia and the flu is old news other than the serious consequences awaiting people dumb enuf to have the vaccines and boosters.

I will say I had the full vax + a couple boosters...could there be adverse effects? Of course...haven't had any yet, but its always possible.
