Where to from here?
Re: Where to from here?
They'll have a senior guy as captain for sure.
Re: Where to from here?
Who judges the selectors? They've gotten away with shockers game in and game out for 20 years. We've only had a handful of games, some quite recently, where I've thought that they have put our best side out.
The selection process has suddenly become a very serious business because we're getting walloped by every team we play. We have been cut a lot of slack over the years, but we're honestly down to the sharp end now and someone who knows what he's doing has to be put in charge.
Without any of us knowing who has what say and who has the final say it's hard to name the culprits.
They've got to stop hoping certain favorite players are one day going to come good and become decent internationals. There are some players with quite a few internationals under their belts and they're not cutting it. Some have been stop start so the next time may as well be the first time.
I've been on social media and the majority of the local followers are laughing about the state of our cricket. Why do they bother following it? Break it and laugh seems to be the order of the day. It makes my blood boil.
I really think there's some merit in having some sort of batting clinic with some guys who know what they're doing and also trying to ascertain which guys are worth putting some time, effort and money into. Our guys need some serious one on one time with a couple of quality coaches.
If I were to level a criticism at DH, and it's a bit of a guess, I'd have to say his approach is perhaps a bit laissez-faire. It works with seasoned guys, but with guys yet to establish themselves someone needs to roll their sleeves up and grind away at some technical issues, solid game plans, preferred scoring areas, game scenarios etc etc. We don't have players good enough that they can discuss and implement after a few net sessions, they need thousands of balls to sort shit out.
A good thrower can replicate Little and Adair for example.
We need better prep. We need players and coaches prepared to put in the hard yards to rescue our cricket.
There's a few guys that have surrendered and can't see a way to turn it around. They need to step aside and we need to find some folk with dog f#% to at least make us a team that will fight tooth and nail.
Kamunhukamwe is a good example. I heard Mawoyo and Rainsford discussing TK's technical glitch and its clearly well known. I mean if he hasn't fixed it and/or someone hasn't helped him with developing new muscle memory with however many thousands of balls then everyone is wasting their time.
Joylord was really good today and we've found someone prepared to put a price on his wicket. He's got virtually no scoring shot thru onside off decent deliveries. Jeez man someone throw him ten thousand balls and get him going both sides of the wicket, he's good enough to spend resources on.
We're at a point where guys need to sign contracts that stipulate that they have to hit 300-500 balls a day on their off days or have to bowl spells, and all have to work on strength and conditioning. It's a game of millimeters and we need to find a way of bridging the gap. The more you practice the more you want to compete to prove yourself.
The philosophy of rewarding domestic performances has its limitations. Gumbie is a good example. He's done ok domestically, but quite a few have done better, yet he's shown a few times that he can compete at the higher level better than others. We have to identify those guys, there's a mere handful.
I honestly believe that Gary Brent has to be given a position in the coaching set up. He sniffs out the slackers and takes no prisoners. There's no place for those guys in our set up, we're at ground zero and we need real people not free loaders.

Re: Where to from here?
Gumbie is clearly someone who has potential - he has good temperament and is a fighter. As Googly says, some good coaching could help him expand his scoring shots.
Neil Johnson, Alistair Campbell, Murray Goodwin, Andy Flower (w), Grant Flower, Dave Houghton, Guy Whittall, Heath Streak (c), Andy Blignaut, Ray Price, Eddo Brandes
Re: Where to from here?
Gumbie, Madande and even Madhevere have potential. No matter how much poorly he has done, Madhevere is more likely to come off than some of the others they are trying.
Welch has to be in there and I would like to give Bennet and Campbell some chances, let's see how they go.
If Evans is back it will strengthen the pace bowling. Spin department is good, that is the only area where I feel Zimbabwe are doing fairly good.

Re: Where to from here?
I'm curious who has written Welch off and why.
He got an early shot and didn't impress alongside the other 7 batters on a shite pitch. They play Ireland on a better pitch where you can almost hit thru the line and they don't pick a guy who can open and get you off to a good start, or come down the order and hit it a lot cleaner than most.
Anyone who thinks he's a lesser batsman than Gumbie, Kaia, Kaitano, Madhevere, Shumba, Bennett or Kamunhukamwe I don't think understands cricket. Perhaps
it's a case of a couple of the selectors hoping he's going to be shit?
At some point they'll have to have another look because we've seen the others multiple times, with the exception of Bennett, and every one of them has flattered to deceive, Gumbie being the exception. In Gumbie we've found a good player, and he can keep, which in the real world makes Madande's spot not so secure. Not in this lifetime or the next is Madande a better bat than NW, and he's widely considered a dead cert.
We all know NW is going to get a tenth of the opportunities offered to the usual lads, he needs to make a score fairly soon in the limited opportunities he's going to get, despite the others repeatedly getting single figure scores for years on end. It's a low bar he needs to clear. They can give him a clear run or they can give him the in out treatment over the next few years hoping he fucks it up because thats what it will amount to.

Re: Where to from here?
I don't overly rate our spin department, its ok not good. It's full of part timers. Decent ones though.
Mavuta and Masakadza are our current specialists, but in international terms they're bog standard. No offence to them. Bog standard is good.
We're still looking for someone that really bothers international batsmen.

Re: Where to from here?
Just heard that that u25 tour may be off the table. Potentially they left it too late to do anything official.
Instead they're going to encourage guys to go and play club and potentially convene mid week to practice and potentially play the odd mid week game.
Certainly a helluva lot cheaper that way.

Re: Where to from here?
Balboa wrote himself off decking that bro in the car park
can’t be doing that with no comeback as a murungu lol. The fact he’s still playing domestic shows he’s still in contention just needed a slap on the wrist to remind him not to get above his station.

Re: Where to from here?
We’ll blame England for weaselling out that under 25 tour on the basis of no evidence whatsoever

Brilliant.
When the fuck is anyone going to take any fucking accountability for the constantly poor organisation and administration of the game at every single bloody level.
