Which is why those national contracts are crucial for the guys. If guys like chamu are on national contracts then thats just scandalous. We might be the only country which doesn't publish the list of contracted players. There is a reason for this. I thought it was mandatory.
Chamu

Only country that doesn’t do a heck of a lot of shit bro

The only board who pocket all the ICC funding except 100k for wages. Whoever the board are and whatever their auditing is  senior players like Willo get paid a hundred magic beans a game topped up with more for meeting unpublished performance criteria.

Where to from here is back to the golden days of an odd white ball win, major scalp if we’re lucky and rain affected drawn test matches. Chilling in the sun with no worries.

Given Dave and Hammy are gike this is what I would do.
1. Replace Matsi too. Someone outside our system that has fresh ideas.
2. Dave into head of cricket (if position exists still). I think a local is needed here.
3. Flower as coach. If that is a pipe dream, look at someone who understands what success looks like.
4. Short term strategy is find what dollar amount it would take to get Cartwright into the system and offer it. We laxk firepower and a bowling all rounder. Also explore Jayden Goodwin. This kid will likely play for Australia but you never know. He did do an African mission after all.
5. Long term strategy. Target 12/13 year olds and develop them over the long term.
6. Mid term strategy. Flush out the perennial failures from the system. Chibhabha, Maruma, Matumbami and co. They are infected with a losing mindset and will pass this on. Fair or not thsi has to happen. They can still play NPL as a way to boost club. Bring in more bowlers from overseas as guests. It’s occurred to me that in the domestic scene we see the same bowlers over the last ten years and our players are just so used to them it’s almost like clockwork. We need to keep batsman guessing and thinking in their feet. This is why we lose to Uganda. We don’t know their bowlers. We need to learn to olay unknown quantities.

This is how you do it.
An update on Jayden Goodwin , he has been named in a 12 man squad to play for a cricket Australian X1 in a 3 day tour match next week v West Indies.

A good game of cricket folks and I think Zimbabwe should push on from here and look to rebuild keeping 2027 WC in mind.

A near future team could look like this:

Ervine
Gumbie
Myers / Welch / Madande
Williams
Raza
Madhevere / Bennett
Burl
Mavuta/Campbell
Evans / Jongwe / Faraz
Ngarava
Muzarabani

Mufudza, Wellington can also be in the reckoning. Have to keep an eye on M Welch as a batter and Maposa for an out right fast bowler.

Then we have to see who amongst the U19s can stake a claim in the side. Hopefully some of them will come through before 2027 WC.

They are currently running a series of U25 ‘trial’ matches this week. About 40 guys involved.

You’d think the talented guys worth persevering with and selecting for an U25 tour to England would be obvious by now but apparently not. Apparently they need yet more trials to inform selection.

Gametime is good. We want guys playing as much as possible.

But the premise appears to be that if some guy who has been shit for the past 5 years hits a 50 in these games that qualifies him for selection? Whilst someone who is obviously talented might have a rough day and then his place is in danger?

Anyone with half an eye on the local game could pick a competent squad. Why we need 40 guys trialling for selection at this age is beyond me.

First thing is to decide which over 25's they're interested in, after all u25 is just a number both here and Afghanistan, then you know how many spots are left for the actual u25's.
Then are they including golden guys like Bennett, Madhevere, Myers, Bhawa etc?
Then what happens to the few u25's that are playing franchise, which surely is more important?

Surely any u25 that is playing franchise should be an automatic selection unless there's more than 15 of them? If there are more then they will have to choose a squad.

That's an interesting one actually- how many u25's are currently playing franchise?

Then maybe the best u19's should get a look in after the WC.

Then maybe some information by ZC as to who's coaching and what the plans are for U25. Why not u23 or u26? What's the relevance of u25?

The golden boys/senior players like Wes, Shumba, Myers, Madande should be in the squad tbh if they are going to play County 2’s or whatever. Necessary experience. Remember we supposedly have a test in England the following year and I would prefer us not to get beat inside 2 days.

Once again it all just seems very random with no joined up thinking or coherent strategy to development.
