Re: Zimbabwe Emerging Tour of South Africa
Chivanga easily clocking 150 there
wouldn’t fancy facing him.

It's a wonder Chatara isn't playing alongside the other 30 year old emerging bowlers, what a shambles and embarrassment. Roy captain is another joke and the fact he is playing in front of Bennett and Campbell is disgracefulsecretzimbo wrote: ↑Sun Aug 13, 2023 7:53 amJongwe has gone home for personal reasons. Maposa into the squad as replacement.
Roy is captain![]()
Bennet and Campbell aren’t playing today, which I hope they’ve done just to troll nelson and Donald![]()

Roy thoroughly deserves this captaincy of the emerging team after a long and stellar career.
Larry doesn’t need this tour. Franchises worldwide will be queuing up for him after he set the Zim Afro t10 alight.

What’s even going on, some guy running on with a handful of stumps so they can pick the right one

The thinking with picking Roy obviously isn't because anyone thinks he's genuinely emerging. He went to India with an even younger 'Emerging' squad earlier in the year as a specialist captain to provide guidance and experience and by all accounts did a good job of that both on and off field. So I guess it's a similar idea.
Although the actual squad we've picked here isn't even that young or inexperienced so I'm not sure it is necessary. The Kaia family is very close with the Masakadza family (I believe distantly related?) so that's probably the better explanation
If they see Wes or Clive as future captains then they should have just left it to them. Or sent Wellington to get captaincy experience.

I'm more frustrated that they've given the gloves to Gumbie over Madande. That's disappointing.

It is what it is. A jolly boys outing under the guise of an emerging team to save blushes if it goes badly. You’d like to think genuine emerging players like Jono et al will get a game at some point otherwise it’s been a waste for them. As for the other boys, cricket is cricket and it’s either this, NPL or do nothing for a few months; so at least they’re keeping their skills sharp.secretzimbo wrote: ↑Sun Aug 13, 2023 9:51 amThe thinking with picking Roy obviously isn't because anyone thinks he's genuinely emerging. Roy is alright. Sometimes the value someone brings to the squad is more than their stats, he’s probably like you say, a good guy to have around on and off the field, whatever the experience of the squad. I’d go the other way regarding Wes in particular, he don’t need the additional pressure of captaining even this outfit, he needs to be worrying about his game and nothing else at this point. Wellington is the future captain by my reckoning and yes he could have been sent in a similar role to Roy in that regard.
As for the game, the boys are keeping the run rate down I guess. A few more wickets would be nice though. The real test of character will be the chase, as always seems to be the way.

All very familiar with first name terms today
That’s the vibe of this tour.
