Bangladesh have been abject this tournament but also for over a year now. Their form in Test cricket has been pretty poor stretching all the way back to 2018 and the blame lies at the feet of the board for their chronic mismanagement and incompetence but also with the players who keep making the same mistakes over and over.
Easily the worst team of the tournament so far. They actually had a good team on paper and I thought Bangladesh would do reasonably well in this WC but this has been a disastrous campaign for them.

I wonder if we've seen the last of Shakib and Mahmudullah, may be even Mushfiqur in ODIs. I'm assuming Tamim Iqbal will make a comeback now after this disastrous tournament.
England just beating us out at the moment for the worst team in the tournament. At least England have a few white ball trophies. Bangladesh has nothing to show for themselves. This is the final legacy of our first real group of stars (Tamim, Mushy, Shakib, Riyad). They are basically a #8th ranked ODI side that can occasionally slip into 6 or 7, but never for long.

Most people are blaming the BCB’s corruption and incompetence and while that’s a factor…it’s time to blame the players as well. They’ve always had a minnow mentality or lacked in self belief and it will always be exposed in an ICC event. And I’m not talking about arrogance or hubris…I’m talking about setting a higher standard but doing so without blabbing to a reporter about the weakness of the opposition. Small minded people do that.

At any rate I’ll have a more detailed post mortem after the tournament ends.
But yes, you’re spot on.

To think some were picking Bangladesh to be a semifinalist.

I also had Pakistan as a semifinalist. And I correctly had England missing out. That being said that was an old prediction. Most recently I had Bangladesh at 8th in my WC power rankings.

Now the news is that top 8 at the WC (hosts + 7) will automatically qualify for the Champions Trophy.

Bangladesh and England currently out of that as things stand!

I love the desperate last-minute attempt by the ICC to inject some interest into the next fortnight of what would otherwise be dead-rubbers

Why is this thread in the Zim section and not the other cricket section?

England have been shambolic. I think Stokes' shot was a great embodiment of England's campaign...hopeless!

Apparently this was decided back in 2021…appears as though Bangladesh were already aware.

It’s a good move I would say.

I'm sure it was. But ECB say they had no knowledge of it until today.... Can't find any announcements or press release notes or anything about it after the 2021 ICC meetings either. Seems the ICC themselves forgot about it until this morning  Such a poorly ran sport, what a joke.
