Exactly. Matsi is a great middle order player. I cannot understand why they use him as a makeshift opener and then are surprised when he is out for a small amount. Matsi would be far better in the middle order.
Still it gives most people here a chance to indulge in their Matsi hate (not you Sloandog, I agree with your sentiment on theprevious page).
A talented batsman but a modest, hardworking character, Stuart Matsikenyeri is the third of three school friends from Churchill Boys High School, Harare to represent Zimbabwe in international cricket. - Cricinfo.
I rather think that the pros and cons of selecting Stuart Matsikenyeri should be kept to his ability ON THE PITCH
No, he's never been able to rise to the expectations that were raised at the start of his career, but he's been a loyal and hard working servant of the Zim game and doesn't deserve some of the comments made on here, unless you have some proof of something ?
Meanwhile, cricket
A new career best for Sean Williams as he and Keith Dabengwa, yes another one we love to hate, have taken the score past the 250 mark, now 254-3 with Williams 134* and Dabengwa 48*
Still a long way to go in the hope of collecting those 6 points, 211 in fact, with Regis Chakabva and Forster Mutizwa still to bat
Heading to lunch and I must say that the guys are doing pretty well at the moment. Congrats to Sean Williams for career best (still counting...) and to Kieth Dabengwa for great support! I can't see us losing this one from this position now... GO ZIM!
It was a catastrophic error not to open with Vusi and have Matsi in at five.

Very well said. To claim he is only selected as he bums the selectors is disgusting. I am surprised the mods allow that sort of claim here.
Matsi has never quite become the brilliant cricketer his initial promise showed but you are right. He is a loyal, diligent, hard working player who still has plenty to offer the Rocks and the national set up.

These are commendable qualities and work ethic and would love to see that in more players "loyal, diligent, hard working player " but unfortunately the selectors also have to get to a point where they realise that besides thes qualities he just isn't cut out for international cricket. Just like now days you can forget making any international side based on JUST being an excellent fielder, its a given. So these qualities are also a given for any pro sportsman.

Well he is cut out for international cricket but maybe not in the ODI/T20 team and only on the fringes of the test side. With the emergence of some real young talent, the future of the side, Matsi is not a cert for the test side but could help in the set up as an old pro to help the young ones. I do not think he should be discarded.
I agree he is a good fielder.

Ah Sean Williams - I was rooting for your double century!!!! Nevertheless what a great innings, just over 100 runs to go, I hope the remaining guys can steer the ship home... Hats off!!!!
