Zimbabwe v Afghanistan Test Squad
Re: Zimbabwe v Afghanistan Test Squad
I agree about the pitches we are preparing. We are all over the place. No identity. We had so many low scoring games just a couple of years ago but strangely enough when people are scoring hundreds all the time they can't bat at international level. Says a lot

Our identity is as losers
old salamander smiling away in his presser like he’s not on a performance based contract

The second half of the season will produce more difficult pitches, it always does. In theory we're getting above average rains after Xmas.TapsC2 wrote: ↑Mon Dec 23, 2024 3:12 pmI agree about the pitches we are preparing. We are all over the place. No identity. Who are the guys scoring hundreds all the time?

Goat herder Mawoza is a clown. In the 90s we only played associates at World Cups, we were routinely playing pretty much everyone home and away. The old ZCU also survived with far fewer resources - was the entire squad even professional?sam_ahm wrote: ↑Mon Dec 23, 2024 1:24 pmWell in the mid 90s when I pretty much started watching cricket, Zimbabwe kind of had a similar mindset that we've just got to be competitive or may be at least I thought so... It was a little later may be from 1997 onwards that Zimbabwe started believing in themselves that they can genuinely beat top sides.
It was around 1999 when Zimbabwe hit their peak and that peak continued until 2003, after which it all fell apart due to the mass exodus.
I remember in those days, late 90s ans early 00s, Zimbabwe wickets were hard and bouncy, very seamer friendly and the likes of Heath Steak, Andy Blignaut, etc.really enjoyed bowling on such decks. It was so much fun to watch those games.
I don't know how and why the pitches became slow and turning, that is so much unlike Zimbabwe pitches of the past.
I see people like Zolsky comment on Social Media that the win% during 90s and now is same... What kind of an idiot is that guy? There is absolutely no comparison between the Zimbabwe team of late 90s and the one we are witnessing now... I mean just reading that guys comments makes my blood boil... What an *** ****.
Neil Johnson, Alistair Campbell, Murray Goodwin, Andy Flower (w), Grant Flower, Dave Houghton, Guy Whittall, Heath Streak (c), Andy Blignaut, Ray Price, Eddo Brandes

I'm not sure any of them were pros? Maybe one or two.
I know most of them had friendly jobs so they could take time out to play and practice. So effectively they were much better off than our current players
ZCU was effectively about 3 people and a secretary that worked for free.

The win percent should be way more these days, all the associates we play and all the generational talent we have. Why isn’t it

Total roads, bulawayo and Salisbury

I meant collectively. Every week people are scoring big. . Myers is a good example of this. The fact that someone can go to uni for 3 years but score big at least once everytime he came back is concerning if you look at it objectively. It should never be that easy. With him we are talking about massive scores... 206... 179.. then when we see him bat at the highest level we can see technical issues that can be fixed but were clearly not tested at domestic level.Googly wrote: ↑Mon Dec 23, 2024 6:16 pmThe second half of the season will produce more difficult pitches, it always does. Makes me realize that Welch will probably struggle just like the other guys. Naqvi too. The ceiling is obviously high but the initial struggles will be the same. In the press conference you hear Sammons talking about Mayavo scoring runs in Kwekwe where it was turning. We will find out soon enough if that means anything.
