No wonder why they call this the RCF. Some of these takes of "black/coloured/African" players are ridiculous. There so many things people aren't considering.zimbos_05 wrote: ↑Wed Jan 08, 2025 12:04 amSouth Africa have a proper infrastructure and people in charge who know what they are doing. They have cricket knowledge and understanding and their coaches at the domestic and youth level know what they are doing too.
Our system is led by a man with prejudice and hatred who is only in it for the money and plaudits. He has no idea about anything cricket related and as soon as someone else or a project seems to be doing well, he crushes it.
Our players don't really have much accountability too, at least the black players. So when you have a leader who is so prejudiced, coupled with the head of selectors being the same, and all your mates in positions of note, then we will always have problems.
We are the only nation that has not stopped the fall. West Indies were a great side, and despite how far they have fallen, they would never lose to a Uganda like side.
1-What accountability do you want from them? If you were selected would you say no I'm not good enough? Do you really think somebody wants to keep wicket for 160 overs then open the batting? They are suffering just as much from this too.
I can go as far as to say where was the accountability question for BT for taking fixing money or for Ballance when he screwed us over after they took a big chance on him?
2-- Quotas. how many times this decade have we had more than 4 white players who were good enough? I'm looking back when PJ stopped being selected (he was struggling). Zimbabwe tour of Ireland 2019. BT, Burl, PJ, Williams, Jarvis and Ervine were all playing. 6 players. Guess what? We won 1 game out of 5 against Ireland. After Heath Streak. PJ and Jarvis left the mix that year. Then there were 4. BT left 2 years later. Then there were three.
Welch came back was fast tracked then dropped, Bennett came in early just like Wes and he stayed because he produced results. Ben Curran was not fast tracked. Evans came in and got injured .Both Ben and Nick weren't scoring last season. They both are now. Ben was picked. Frank even confirmed that Nick was in the mix for selection. Should he have been picked this last series? Yes? Will he be picked? Yes. 2 things can be true.
3- when it comes to ability. I will always say it's a system thing. Why don't black batsmen progress? Why didn't PJ and Burl progress too? No century to their name in their 30s too. After Hamilton, Elton, Taibu, Chakabva, BT, Williams, Raza and Ervine who else has scored a century? If I remember correctly we have Mire, Kaia and Bennett. Mire was playing in Australia. Kaia and Bennett are the outliers. Ballance scored a century but he is clearly not a product of our domestic system. Where is the race issue in that?
It shows it's a broken system. Also notice how there 4 black centurions from the old domestic system. 3 white. (From the 2004 walkout onwards). Yes there obviously a lot more black players but this shows how the ability is there.
4- selection bias. The only true player who is completely out of his depth and has zero chance of improvement but keeps getting selected is not black by the way. The guys who were being accused of paying to play and now pushing for national selection are not black.
Another case was for Jonathan Campbell. People pointed out that based on their policy Raza should not have played ahead of him but he proved them wrong when he played. Nobody is mentioning that according to these same principles Campbell should have played ahead of Bennett too but he also went on to score a century in one game then struggle the next 2 like what a lot of people expected. Nobody is mentioning that. Bennett benefited from the same fast tracking policy others have benefited from in that instance and he produced the results overall.
My final point is that people here are also adding to the pressure that NW, MW and Campbell will have to deal with when they eventually play. We have gotten back to that point in 2019 where you have more than 4 white players who can be selected. Don't ruin it by constantly acting like they will miraculously change our fortunes. We will still struggle with them then this place will lose all credibility. Don't blame players for being selected too. They are not the problem . We all know who the real culprits are but by constantly attacking players you give those culprits a perfect excuse to continue doing what they are doing. If we ever want change this has to stop.
I can almost guarantee you that at some point this year we will have 5 or 6 white players in the mix and still lose. This will be done just to prove the point that they are not our saviours. We are in deep trouble no matter who you select that is available right now.
