Shakib initiated that appeal and wouldn't withdraw it.

I have no issue with it, the laws are the laws and it's the World Cup, not a village match. Elite sport is about winning - Good on Shakib for even thinking about that method of dismissal.

Been seeing that Charles Kunje was the last player to be timed out in FC. Anyone know the story behind that one?
No idea but I found the scorecard and there is all sorts going on in that match  Tuskers bowled out for 60-odd, including Kunje 'timed out'. Also featuring Mohammed Eqlakh who was the last guy who tried to do a Naqvi from overseas. (Didn't end well....).

I tend to agree...if there's an equipment malfunction (strapping on helmet)...you should know about that before the match even! Players carry a minimum of 3-4 bats and pairs of gloves, they probably carry a spare helmet cuz you never know when you're going to get hit by a bouncer.

The new mankad rule has set the tone. Adhere to rules, it's no longer a gentleman's game

It's a gentlemans game (or should be) at amateur level but tbh at this level just win at all costs. You do in every other sport. If SL have anything about them they will mankad a Bangladeshi this afternoon

Also, Shakib - a spinner - was bowling when Matthews was timed out. Why didn't Matthews just take guard and bat for 1-ball helmetless before the 12th man could run a new helmet out?

Thats what I was thinking...but obv Mathews didn't think Shakib would appeal.

But yes a lot at stake in this dead rubber with a Champions Trophy spot potentially on the line...its a 4-way horse race between ENG, NED, SL, BD all who whom have a realistic shot at making or not making it.
