2023 ODI World Cup Discussion
Re: 2023 ODI World Cup Discussion
South Africa have butchered Sri Lanka here with the bat. Absolutely brutal hitting. It was merciless. Highest ever World Cup Score!!!
Easy win for Bangladesh over the much hyped Afghanistan.

South Africa are scary…they’re batting particularly. Could be the best batting lineup in the tournament atm.
None of the teams bowling stand out IMO. Might just be the pitches.
The Afghans are probably just markedly better than the Sri Lankans.

From an old beuatiful movie we are used to the catchphrase "follow the money".
In the case of this World Cup we see that ticket prices range (in terms of Euro) from 5€ to 450€!
source: Al Jazeera https://www.aljazeera.com/sports/2023/1 ... kets-india
In India a 5€ ticket (for a remote place in the stands) is something very hard for lower working class possibility. I can figure out a 40 € ticket for a decent place.... (even in Europe people would think twice before buying it).
As a result: an attendance fiasco.
It's not a point of view, it's been overly demonstated that stadium managment calls for the must of, at least, 50-60.000 attendance. You must have (at least) that number and then leverage on it for food, beverage, merchandising and other amenities that make an event economically standable.
It's not "americanization", it is economic good practice.
Tickets are to be sold at less than 50€ with starting price at 1€ only. Then you surely get 100.000 people on the stands, avoid being teased around the world and make more money rather than hoping to selling tickets fetching hundreds of Euro each.

You’ve lost me.
Re: 2023 ODI World Cup Discussion
Great to see South Africa coming out of the gate strong. I really think they might do well this tournament.

India vs Australia should have been at Ahmedabad or Kolkata’s massive ground.
I think the India v Pak game is still scheduled for that 100,000 seater. Should be some packed crowds for those. Let’s see what happens for Aus vs Eng neutral game.

Re: 2023 ODI World Cup Discussion
Over 20,000 in attendance for the SA-SL match today which is quite a bit more than the corresponding fixture in 2019. And considering there is little to no diasporas in India compared to England. So not really that bad.
Re: 2023 ODI World Cup Discussion
Criticisms around the World Cup really should just be focusing on the BCCI's inability to do the basics properly, whether that be ticketing issues, a non-existent marketing campaign or the stupid scheduling such as not having India play the first game and then still having the first game in a120,000 seat stadium.
Nitpicking over things like crowd sizes at the beginning of games when the matches last for 8 hours and are starting in the middle of the afternoon with temperatures in the mid-30s is just pointless.

I remember in 2011 Zimbabwe v Kenya had 15 paid spectators at Eden Gardens! Really a tournament like this should be hosted in all four subcontinent countries but of course the India/Pakistan standoff makes this impossible.
