This came as a surprise. Prosper Utseya and Greg Lamb are among the coaches .
Zimbabwe Cricket will be sending its U19 team to Singapore from the 14th to 19th of January
2016 to play two 50 over matches against an SCA President’s XI on the 15th and 17th of
January at the Singapore Indian Association grounds. Ideally, the matches would have been
played at SCA’s Kallang Cricket Ground, but is still being redressed after it was used for the
SE Asian Para Games in December 2015. These matches will be played in preparation for
Zimbabwe’s upcoming campaign at the ICC U19 World Cup, which will commence on the 27th
of January 2016 in Bangladesh.
The ICC U19 World Cup has seen the first introduction of many stars of the game, where
current big names of world cricket like Virat Kohli, Hashim Amla and Chris Gayle first
announced their arrival. Zimbabwean U19s graduates boast outstanding players such as
Brendon Taylor, Tatenda Taibu, Hamilton Masakadza and one time ODI individual highest
score record holder, Charles Coventry (194*). England’s Gary Ballance and New Zealand’s
Colin de Grandhomme were also products of Zimbabwe’s youth system, having represented
Zimbabwe at an U19s World Cup.
This will be an excellent opportunity for Singapore’s representative cricketers to pit their skills
against the next generation of a test playing nation and through that, gain invaluable
exposure to high quality cricket. With an important year coming up in 2017 with cricket now
accepted into the SEA games and also with Singapore looking to climb up the rankings by
being promoted from the World Cricket League Division 3, the timing of this tour by the
Zimbabwean U19 side could not have been any better.
The Zimbabwean touring party will also include onetime captain and off spinner, Prosper
Utseya, who has been appointed bowling coach for the team, while former senior team coach,
the experienced Stephen Magongo, will be at the reigns as head coach.
The last time Zimbabwean cricketers showcased their skills in Singapore was during the Coca
Cola Challenge Triangular which was held at the Kallang Cricket Ground in 1999, along with
India and West Indies. Sixteen years on, the future of Zimbabwe’s cricket will now set foot on
the island nation to take on Singapore’s finest.
Matches will start at 10.00am at the Singapore Indian Association Ground, 69 Balestier Road
and will be played on Friday the 15th and Sunday the 17th of January 2016.

How useless are ZC? Would it have been difficult for them to announce this, oh I don't know, more than 3 days before the first match?
If this had been announced a month ago I'd have tried bloody hard to get up there for a few days.
Fun fact, I "broke into" Kallang once. Found a hole in the fence, got through and checked out the centre wicket.
Between Kallang, the Padang, the new national stadium and a huge Indian/Sri Lankan expat community I don't know why Singapore doesn't try and attract teams to play proper internationals.
Singapore did used to host a few tri series, I think Sanath Jayasuriya broke some ODI record at the Padang in the mid-90s. Malaysia used to host some internationals too. I agree that it seems strange neither country really hosts internationals anymore.

That's ZC's standard practice whoever they're playing, never mind for low-profile U19 series. Even for the big boys, you know what month they're due in but good luck getting a proper match schedule with any sort of advance warning... (Yes, preaching to the converted... )
Was with the boys as they boarded their bus. The lads were so excited and positive about their trip and the challenge of representing Zimbabwe at a world cup in a positive respectful manner. I hear they may be playing an Under 23 side in Singapore. I wish them all the best

The Afghan games didn't go well, but hopefully they can put on some decent displays at the world cup. 2 of their group games are being televised, so they will have a good stage on which to impress. Secondly, we can hope that one or two decent players can emerge from this crop, that's all you can really hope from any junior side.
Hopefully the tall dude 3rd from the left is a fast left arm bolwer non of that medium pace, i can imagine him getting taller and bigger and dont let Hondo get close to him he might turn him into a medium pacer

The huge bloke on the far right is Snyder. He looks like the U15 who has been sneaked into an U13 side!
