[Discussion]: Your Zim A side for Sou A & NZ, team building

Post by Detective RDS »

Zimbabwe A has the following fixture before the test match against New Zealand in July 28th.
Zimbabwe A v Sth Africa A at Bulawayo
Jul 9-12, 2016 (10:00 local | 08:00 GMT | 14:00 BDT)

Zimbabwe A v Sth Africa A at Bulawayo
Jul 15-18, 2016 (10:00 local | 08:00 GMT | 14:00 BDT)

Zimbabwe A v N Zealanders at Bulawayo
Jul 22-24, 2016 (10:00 local | 08:00 GMT | 14:00 BDT)
So, we can try out players for the Zimbabwe A side.

Logan cup 2015/16 (Zim FC competition) most runs & most wickets:
http://stats.espncricinfo.com/ci/engine ... tournament
http://stats.espncricinfo.com/ci/engine ... tournament

I'm thinking of putting together the following squad:

1. Brian Chari (Has scored runs for the A side previously as well)
2. Sikandar Raza (Opened in our last test, slotted him here to get some form back)
3. Peter Moor (WK) (Has to be there)
4. Malcolm Waller (Healthy FC record, averages 38.97, no joke)
5. Vusimuzi Sibanda (C) (Scored against India in middle order, trial in the middle order for tests)
6. Ryan Burl (Has to be there)
7. Luke Jongwe (Identified as a future all rounder)
8. Shingirai Masakadza (Logan cup most wickets)
9. Brian Vitori (Needs to see how he goes)
10. Wellington Masakadza (should have debuted against Bangladesh)
11. Tapiwa Mufadza (Off spinner, was in the T20I squad vs Ind)

12. Forster Mutizwa (FC Ave 39.51)
13. Nkosana Mpofu (Tuskers opener, averaged 37.5 in this logan cup, career FC ave 30) (Richmond Mutumbami & Joylord Gumbie are other options)
14. Brandon Mavuta (The U/19 captain, leg spin can be attacking, thought about young slow left armer Herbert Chikomba & off spinner John Nyumbu also who picked up wickets vs SOU in test)
15. Carl Mumba (Has decent bowling stats, confused, there are other pacers Kyle Bowie (around ?), Nevill Madziva, Tafadzwa Muzarawetu, Taurai Muzarabani)

Other players:

Nathan Waller: Scored some runs in logan cup at the back end.
Tanyaradzwa Munyaradzi: Second most wickets in logan cup. Can someone shed some lights on him ?

These are some other players who represented the previous A side:

Trevor Garwe: He's 29. Will he be able to play a role ? What does he possess ?
Timycen Maruma: Hit some useful runs in the 3rd T20I. I don't know where he stands as a longer form batsman.
Victor Nyauchi: Played for A side.
Natsai Mushangwe: Played for A side.
Tinotenda Mutombodzi: Captained the A side against Afg. Couldn't score vs Ind, looked totally out of touch.
Godwill Mamhiyo: Captained the A side. Average records. What's with him with captaincy, is it highly regarded ?

Any U/19 player you want to try who is available ? Or any other names you want to see in Zimbabwe A side ? Throw in the names.

Put up your selectors hat & name your Zimbabwe A side.

wont make a difference to me those players have
been in the system for a long tym now, are they
better than our national guys ? the sad reality is
no .. shingi, waller, sibanda, raza ? are we trying
to build a team for next week or we are trying to
create a new team different from what we have,
a team that can play , compete, win in this time
we needed ziehl seemed like he had a plan to try
out bruce & lake with 1 senior player in there.
chari, chirimuuta, mashinge, gumbie, diplock etc get
mire, mumba to play more games bowie, cartright,
musakanda, murray also we have to see what we have
in our cabinet.. the generation we have now is of
pure incompetant players lets waste no more game
time & resources on them

NB; did u see the team sa are bringing? even our national
team will lose in 3 days, lets just give the next
generation a chance who knows what we might find
there eg ives gave us a shock in the u19 tournament
certainly outplayed those we knew were better

Sorry I'm talking about the same thing in this thread as well. We definitely need to make space for younger players or unknown players. We've seen the other guys for years and years and they're not going to surprise us any time soon. The term - flogging a dead horse is apt. I am a Vusi and Hammy fan though. They frustrate me so much, so talented.
That guy Nel is a really decent player, they need to find him and give him a year.

im with googly 100% , guess he has to put it in every
thread & everytime until someone from zc obliges
or taibu reads it. We have been with the same squad
for years & years nothing in that squad will change
including ervines injuries & flus, sean williams injury,
mutumbami getting hit by bowlers scoring shit, hami
playing well in the pre matches & then fail dismally,
if waller is not slogging he is shit, chigumbura playing
one innings the whole series then hides behind form,
jongwe & chisoro going on drunk escapades, vusi
moving up & down the order, burl now is getting
injured b4 a series after scoring runs in warmups,
raza confused day in day out, chibhabha useless as
that opening batsman, panyangara dsnt want to play
anymore, post injury chatara is shit struggling to hit
130k., we bring in kaia, maruma, masvaure , mutombodzi, moor, chari
take them in warmups or after one game bcoz they
actually dont offer anything new. the guys remaining
in our franchises 90% are shit & getting game time because
of politics , racism etc eg mawoyo, chapungu, handirisi
& those who are just not good enough vitori, muzarabani,
mpofu, mshangwe, chakabva, mutizwa, mamhiyo, chnouya
the whole franchise is just dead & is dragging our
better players with it . I would rather look the other
side for players like nel, geyle, mashinge, snater now
playing in netherlands opening the bowler & a very mahmood
batsman too. give welch game time, byrom has better averages
than them & plays in a better league than our franchise
bruce scored 60+ on debut mavhuta 6 wickets on debut
matigimu was cracking 140 in bangladesh , murray scoring
50 in an afg u19 game which our national players failed to play
at the world cup being torn apart by a17 year old from afg.
We have nothing to lose lets look forward & give the youngsters
game time. ives scored 91 against curran & mahmood who
can swing the ball.. dont forget what happens to our
top order when they see a swinging ball esp a left armer
cant even imagine what boult will do to us

bottomline to hell with those in our franchise
bring in fresh blood, better blood

Here's the team I'd go with:

1. Brian Chari
2. Sikandar Raza
3. Peter Moor (wk)
4. Vusi Sibanda (c)
5. Ryan Burl
6. Tarisai Musakanda
7. Luke Jongwe
8. Neville Madziva
9. Wellington Masakadza
10. Carl Mumba
11. Brian Vitori (or a spinner instead, depending on the conditions)

12. Chamu Chibhabha
13. Nkosana Mpofu
14. Tinotenda Mutombodzi
15. Brandon Mavuta
16. Tapiwa Mufudza
17. Timycen Maruma
18. Tanyaradzwa Munyaradzi / Gerald Aliseni ('cause of the pace; also, he did well in the two FC games he played this season)

There's not a lot of point in picking guys for the A side that have played for the National side. The excuse that you need some old heads to guide the youngsters is thin. It just shows we can't find 12 decent players that haven't played for the Zim team that are worth giving a chance to. A games are usually ZC's excuse to give much needed game time to most of our national squad.

I agree. I think the A side needs only 3-4 national team guys in the starting XI....... The rest should be youngsters

But given the fact that the national team has hardly had any game time in light of the up coming tests. I think there should only be 3-4 youngsters with a serious chance of making it to the national side.

The A team simply need more cricket. Their series always get cancelled. I am for a young squad but not against SA A, which is basically half their test team anyway. As we are playing NZ straight after and we havnt played a test since 2014. Play the team against SA A that ur gonna use to play NZ.
