[Match Thread] Zimbabwe XI v Ireland (Intercontinental Cup)

Post by maehara »

Zimbabwe XI v Ireland
Harare Sports Club, 20-23 September 2010

Ireland will be strongly motivated for this one for two reasons: one, they must win to keep their chances of a 4th title in a row alive; and two, there's the small matter of their application for ICC Full Membership / Test status to bear in mind, and a win against Zim will do no harm to their chances.

Zimbabwe XI: Forster Mutizwa, Keith Dabengwa, Nathan Waller, Natsai Mushangwe, Njabulo Ncube, Regis Chakabva, Sean Williams, Shingirai Masakadza, Steven Marillier, Stuart Matsikenyeri, Tendai Chatara, Timycen Maruma, Vusimuzi Sibanda.

Ireland: William Porterfield (captain), Andre Botha, George Dockrell, Allan Eastwood (Pembroke), Trent Johnston, Nigel Jones, John Mooney, Kevin O'Brien, Niall O'Brien (wkt), Andrew Poynter, Paul Stirling, Albert Van De Merwe, Andrew White, Gary Wilson (wkt).

This is essentially our Test side, the first time we've fielded such experience in the Intercontinental Cup. I'm not complaining but such changes don't allow us to evaluate our 'A' side properly. I'd have loved the I-Cup to have been a proper 'A' title.

...and at this point I must confess I posted the ODI squad instead of the Zim XI squad. Corrected now - but it does kinda spoil your comment. Sorry..!

I do think Zimbabwe will win though  :(

Ireland won't be used to the conditions. Will it be really hot in Zim at this time of the year?  :?: :W:

Just coming into Spring there, but I see the forecast is for peak temperatures of 29-32 degrees during the match. A little bit warmer than Belfast, then. :D

Game underway then with Ireland winning the toss and electing to bat first

Team appears to be Sibanda, Chakabva, Chatara, Dabengwa, Marillier, Maruma, Masakadza, Matsikenyeri, Mushangwe, Mutizwa & Ncube which leaves Waller and Williams as the unlucky men
