Bowling........What The Hell Happened ??!!

Post by sloandog »

Well, what's the problem ??
Is it a lack of skill, a lack of confidence, a lack of ability maybe. Which ever one it may be, it needs sorting out drastically with the tour to Bangladesh and the World Cup coming up. I mean did any of our 'Quick'bowlers' have an economy under 8 throughout the T20 and ODI series >>?? I doubt it. Nicolson looks to have some pace and bounce be he, like the rest of the pack, lack international exposure and is an extremely raw bowler, as is Mazakadza. I think the one positive thing is that all our bowlers have serious talent, and than can be nurtured with time. But my god we're supposed to be playing test cricket next year !! What then ?? Can we afford to just let opposition batting teams just score 500 runs a day against us ?? No !

For me it's a lack of experience.
A lot of these guys lack first class experience let alone international. Mazakadza and Nicolson have only played 42 first class matches between them ! That's not enough. I'd have had somebody like Panyangara in who's played international cricket before, and has had some success as a swing bowler. Another look out for is Muzarabani. Apparently he has some gas, and has the potential to be a good fast bowler.

Rainsford played only one game on the tour......what the hell ??
Mpofu looked low on confidence and ryhthem.
Mazakadza has pace and bounce but lacks control, and needs to play more first class cricket.
Ian Nicholson is just not ready for the international arena yet. But with Nicolson atleast you get some pace. He bowled at 87 clicks today against Amla, and was touching 83/84 almost every delivery.

Out of the spinners Utsea probably had the better tour. He may not have picked up too many wickets, but he managed to stem the flow of runs atleast, something Cremer and Dabengwa failed to do.

A lot of you guys may laugh at me here, but i would now fill the side with spinners....i actually would.
Our pace bowlers are going nowhere at the moment, and runs are being leaked almost every single ball for god sake !!
But we all know this won't happen since Streak wants more pace in the side.
The sooner Kyle Jarvis, Tendai Chitara and Keegan Meth get a shot again, the better. Atleast they can provide raw pace and Meth control.

Get your thinking cap on Mr Streak. Lots of work is needed on this pace battery

I agree with you that the side should be filled with spinners. Variety of attack is a moot point when your pace bowlers are going for 8 an over. A flotilla of spinners (Utseya, Price, Cremer, Lamb) is the way to go for the moment regardless of the conditions. Just as well the world cup is in the subcontinent where selecting four spinners isnt all that ridiculous.

Agreed. Spin, spin, spin. Let the so-called quicks grow up a bit. It's not all about speed though, Langeveldt wasn't that quick but troubled us tremendously. Let's spin our way out of trouble. Prior to the World T20, everyone was intrigued by the Zim all spin attack, which we ended up not deploying and suffering as a result.

im feeling a little bit smug right now....im in a 'i told you so' mood about the importance to greg lamb to the side.
experience
calm head
decent batsman
tight yet attackin bowler.

panyangara isnt the answer..yet.

just got to really focus on the bolers...the pace is there....they dont look bad to the naked eye....they just lack a certain something something that quality batsmen have seen and leech onto. Theres holes in their game and like with a pai of jeans, once you have that hole it can get ripped open quite easy.

Spi spin for the world cup, Shingi could play as he is improving though slowly. Theses guys lack line and length, they bowl to be hit, not to get people out, thats why they were hit all over. Simple if Duminy can't play short balls give hime short balls. Hopefully Donald will work with Shingi and Panyagara, Gillespie with Nicolson & Rainsford, Streak with Mpofu at Franchise level, otherwise its too late for the world cup.

Thank God for our army of spinners for the world cup.

What I'm most worried about is Chigumburas bowling. He used to bowl great, but now hes pants. Why did he bowl great in England, but not now? :|

What is the betting that Streak comes out of retirement hahahaah  :W: :W:

Ya I remember the time when Chigumbura could bowl 140Kph (87Mph) and he regularly took wickets. What does everybody think has has gone wrong ?? Is it the captaincy or maybe poor form. Not once did he bowl above 78Mph in this series, on fast, bouncy wickets. Perhaps it's time for Keegan Meth to be given a chance ??
Meth has a international 50 to his name

Perhaps Gary Brent could be lured out of retirement. He wasn't rapid, but good seam the ball both ways and had a superb slower ball. He might be just what we're looking for.
But then you could argue that Keegan Meth is a younger version of Gary Brent, and he should in fact be in....

A Gary Brent-type bowler would be great on the subcontinent wickets. I am guessing Keegan Meth would do well, but it is hard to know as the idiot selectors never pick him.
