Ervine to discuss cricket future with Hampshire

Cricket all-rounder Sean Ervine will discuss his future with his manager at Hampshire, Giles White at next month’s Caribbean Twenty20 tournament before deciding on whether or not to turn up for Zimbabwe.

White was yesterday quoted by the BBC saying he expected Ervine to play for the county next year despite his call-up to the provisional Zimbabwe World Cup squad.

In a telephone interview with NewsDay from his family home in Mhangura on Wednesday, Ervine said although he was keen on a return to the national fold he would have to discuss his future with his club.

“We have been talking with Zimbabwe Cricket but nothing has been concluded because I still have to speak with the guys from Hampshire at the Twenty20 tournament in the Caribbean.”

Ervine however did not rule out the possibility of the T20 competition being the last time he would be featuring for Hampshire. He said: “A lot will depend on the negotiations going on here because I’m really keen on making a comeback to the national team.

“I was born here and my whole family leaves here and as a cricketer there is nothing more special than playing international cricket.“

Ervine’s younger brother Craig has been a revelation for the Zimbabwe team this year and Ervine said he was relishing the prospect of playing alongside his sibling in the national team.

“We have always enjoyed playing alongside each other and last season we both featured for Southern Rocks but playing together in the national team will be more special,” Ervine said.

However it is his county side Hampshire’s reluctance to release the talented batting all-rounder which is the major worry for Zimbabwean cricket followers.
Ervine (28) is contracted to Hampshire until the end of the 2011 season but will have to revert to overseas status if he wishes to play for his country.

and toes :)

Ireland have got loads of county players playing for them at the world cup while we only have Ray price and Chigumbura who have experience at that level, Ervine would certainly bolster the ranks

Snap.

Craig has been a revelation. I am more than happy to admit I was wrong about him.

Craig and Sean in the same team would be brilliant.

Wish i could say the same about Matsi mate ;)
The thing with Ervine is that he has a very impressive temperament. It's something young Sean Williams can learn in his cricketing future.
