[ Poll ] Enforce follow on or not?
It's the number one topic of discussion on commentary. What do you think?
I think I would have enforced the follow on.

With a three day turn around, I think it was good to get the bowlers a rest. We should still be able to bat ourselves to a winning position.
If there was a week between games, then enforce, but the stamina of Jarvis and Shingi needs to be maintained.

History dictates that very, very rarely does a team follow on and go on to lose. We had a pretty substantial first innings lead, and we hadn't been in the field for that long. Bangladesh made such a small total that not enforcing the follow on seems like a very conservative choice.
But the decision has been made now! So Zimbabwe better score enough runs to make the game safe...

You're right, but history also says that teams leading by 255 on first innings don't lose whatever they decide to do.

Is there anyway to find find out the stats for teams that have that sort of first innings lead?Jemisi wrote:You're right, but history also says that teams leading by 255 on first innings don't lose whatever they decide to do.

Re: [ Poll ] Enforce follow on or not?
Zimbabwe should have enforced the follow on, test cricket is not played with the series and recovery times etc in mind, but on a session by session basis. This is why Australia was so good during the Waugh era.We were presented with a golden opportunity to set the course for this series and we went the other route.
We had the momentum and the pendulum was swinging our way....and we have since lost that window, by trying to play it safe.
The argument about the three days break really would have made sense if our bowlers had toiled but if the post lunch burst was anything to go by, they surely wouldn't have had minded another go.
rarely do you get presented with such opportunities in Test cricket. We have to start thinking about cricket and evaluating the state of the game...See the twitter timeline for @Zimcricket for more information on this

Might be a good question for "Ask Steven"
Re: [ Poll ] Enforce follow on or not?
Should had enforced it. Can't remember the last time we enforced a follow on. We could had easily had rolled them over by the end of day.
Re: [ Poll ] Enforce follow on or not?
Edd said ZIM didn't enforce the follow-on so they could cash in on the weekend gate takings by 'extending' the match.
