Corruption and mismanagement in the ZCB

Post by 55727835 »

Gillespie has been pretty direct about issues he had coaching Pakistan. Everything he's come out about following his 6-month stint just makes me think of the similarities with the ZCB at the moment:

1. "I was basically hitting catches and that was about it... having to ask the selectors when they're going to share what the squad is... those sort of things just make you think, are they really interested in having you on board?"
2. Nil communication regarding the non-hiring of high performance/senior assistant coach Tim Nielsen
3. Makes reference to other contributing issues that made him question whether the board wanted him to do the job or not.
4. asking the selectors when they would share the squad for a tour
5. Felt his role as head coach was "severely diminished", by not being given information on team selection ("at least a day before the game").
6. Received a group text after the first test loss vs England regarding the new selection panel. Gillespie had no prior knowledge on this, nor Azam's axing.

I'd love to know how much say Sammons has in the squad selection, and whether corruption and mismanagement was an element he accepted on signing the dotted line- same with Houghton. Surely he must've been tipped off before signing? I'd love to read his book once the board gets rid of him.

Irony is Gillespie was spoken about for Sammons job, but he had the Pak coaching gig on the radar

from what I can tell, ZC do begrugingly give last say on selection to the coach, Streak and Houghton had it, but then they use it against them when they lose. Rhodie this and that blah blah.

It is pretty obvious when ZC take over selections because thats when you get those weird ones like Gumbie in T20, Faraz, Chibhbha etc. They do it everytime. They are pretty cuckolded as they dont care about losing if they can get their guys in. That isnt a shame they feel.

Jonty said in a post here that these two tours were not selected by Sammons and that Sammons is assessing and will take over next series.
Say what you want about Jonty but he definitely has inside info. So he is either lying or that is exactly it.

Although I have wondered, is Sammons really not that knowledgeable about Zim he needs 6 months to assess? you'd want a verrrrrrry good coach Ted Lasso style if he doesnt know anything about the team pre flop.

Found this article from 2016 before Streak was appointed as coach. Article talks about Streak, Blignaut, Peter Kirsten and a certain Justin Summons(think they meant Sammons) being interviewed for the role. Looks like Sammons has been in the pipeline for a while.

That article actually goes on to say it was between Streak and him. Also he has worked with us already.

The answer to the coaching mystery was in front of us, we just didnt notice.

Thats pretty fair tho. You've got the say on selection, and you have literally just one job (to qualify), if you fail the coach should be at least partly to blame (no doubt its 80% on the players).

Sammons hardly knew the players when he was appointed. If there was enough competitive cricket being played 6 months is more than enough but the only cricket that was being played at the time of his appointment was NPL you cant really make anything out of club cricket. He has limited input right now and leans on the advice of assistant coaches and the selector. He has traveled to watch a few Logan Cup and pro 50 games before the Pak series, that gave me him sight of players as well as looking at stats of previous international tours.

After this Afghan tours he would have had a chance to look a good number of players. However, they are some that appear to have been 'over-looked' at the moment but will deffo get a chance. Some were given ropes to hang themselves during the PAK and the ongoing Afghan series.

After the Afghan series he will have a 'big say' on who make the squads. I put 'big say' in quotes for a reason and you will soon find out why. Selection has always been political and will remain political. This is how things will play out. A young Black ODI and Test Captain is being announced 'soon' (i want to tell you the name but will put unnecessary and unwanted attention and scrutiny on him at the moment).

The Captain, Coach and Selector will deliberate on the squad selection. The captain is young and trying to find his feet in International cricket so will be at mercy of appointing authority. He will not go against the appointing authority. So on selection it will be 2 vs 1. Coach will be allowed to have some sort of final say on selection on some instances and if things go wrong that will be used against him (same old trick used on Houghton and Streak) The cycle will repeat until he is gone.

I feel like you mean Myers as the young black player.

Dion Myers :P everyone knows it's going to happen one day but it's very soon . Mawoza indicated his name in captaincy and he praised Nyamhuri way before he was selected for the national team. It's all connected
