Yeah - I just spent about 10 minutes trying to find a thread to merge this with, as I was so sure we must have had it. Clearly not!zimfan1 wrote:i dont think we have had this as a topic on the fourm yet which seems amazing as its usally one of the topics that cricket fans are most eagar to talk about.
Good choice of thread then, and welcome to the forums mnelson68!

Oh and welcome to the forum mnelson68 . And i think your team is sweet. Perhaps Have Eddo Brandes in for guy whittall to bolster the pace attack. But apart from that, looks a pretty solid zim team

That thread's been dormant for quite a while, though, so we'll let it be this time.

Openers
1.GW Flower (No doubt whatsoever)
2. NC Johnson/ADR Campbell/M Dekker
Though Niel has better track record in tests then Campbell but i hate his constant wishlist of -had i played for RSA, just like Sean Williams current state of mind. Dekker had dream debut series against kiwis and he played well in Pakistan too where Campbell was Man-of-series. Ppl still talk about Alistair's fiery batting at rawlpindi after being hit on head by Akram. The way he handled 2 W's-Waqar n Wasim was phenomenal. So my No.2 is Kamba.
Middle Order
3,4,5 is quiet easy to choose with Goodwin, Haughton and Andy Flower taking respective slots.
All-rounders
Streaky, Guy Whittall and Blignaut my take. Few ppl might object at GW but i think his unbeaten 113 in historic win against Pakistani's at HSC and his 200 edges out others. The hat-trick man won the test against India in one fiery spell and his 90 plus in Lloyd trophy effectively puts himin allrounder bracket.
Pacers
The famous chicken farmer cricket has ever produced-Eddo Brandes and the perfect gentleman-Henry Olonga will hunt in pairs.
Spinner
The old fox will edge out close competition P Strang and R Price on any day.
So here's Situ's XI:
1. G.Flower
2. A.Campbell
3. M.Goodwin
4. D.Houghton
5. A.Flower
6. H.Streak
7. G.Whittall
8. A.Blignaut
9.E.Brandes
10.H.Olonga
11. J.Traicos
Coach- J.Hampshire

Re: Best X1 all time Zim players
Yes, if you leave out the "what could have beens", we won't be considering many greats of pre-Zimbabwe / Rhodesian era. Also, the like of Sean Ervine, who left at the very beginning.
So, here goes my team:
Grant Flower
Niel Johnson
Murray Goodwin
Andy Flower (WK)
David Houghton (C)
Alistair Campbell
Guy Whittall
Heath Streak (VC)
Eddo Brandes
Henry Olonga
John Traicos
Reserves:
Paul Strang
Ray Price
Tatenda Taibu
Andy Blignaut
Coach: Robin Brown (going for the complete Zim flavour)
