I’m definitely not, generally. But in this specific conditions and in this situation we need to be extra conservative and go with the extra bat.mnelson68 wrote: ↑Fri Nov 24, 2023 7:34 pmFinally coming around to my way of thinking at last , Welch for Marumani or Kaiai and I'm happy .secretzimbo wrote: ↑Fri Nov 24, 2023 3:53 pmYa I'm not usually a fan of playing extra batters just for the sake of it (that old 8+3 thing we used to bang on about did my head in) but in these conditions absolutely warranted.
Potentially go with this?
1 Marumani
2 Kaia
3 Ervine
4 Williams
5 Raza
6 Burl
7 Madhevere
8 Madande
9 Jongwe
10 Ngarava
11 Blessing
It is however a defensive team selection for a team that is desperate. It is not a blueprint for an ambitious team going forwards.

Honestly I’m the complete opposite. I think they’ve got to back the bowlers to bowl all these teams out for less than 120. The last thing Zimbabwe need is for Uganda to get away and post 150 because then they’ll be forced to chase down a sizeable total on a slow pitch against a platoon of military medium bowlers and spinners bowling it stump to stump. That won’t be easy regardless of how many batters you stack in the team. Bowl them out cheaply and knock it around for 18 overs and win easy.

Qualification is the key. Once we get to windies next year we can be a bit more gun ho!secretzimbo wrote: ↑Fri Nov 24, 2023 7:52 pmI’m definitely not, generally. Agreed! Needs must. These are desperate times.

This is a fair point and what you would expect the better team to do. In fact the best teams do that. We are the best team in this tournament on paper. I just don't trust our batsmenSaint_Mel wrote: ↑Fri Nov 24, 2023 11:46 pmHonestly I’m the complete opposite. I think they’ve got to back the bowlers to bowl all these teams out for less than 120. Googly was asking about permutations and such...its still way to early for that, but I will say this:
The heavy loss to Namibia might come back to haunt Zimbabwe in a tie-breaker because Uganda kept their defeat to a much smaller margin. If there is a tie on points, Zimbabwe have to make that up against the weaker sides.

No Mate, Uganda has lost to Namibia. So as long as Zimbabwe win everything from here on they should be good. Kenya too are likely to lose to Zim, Nam and Uga.Kriterion_BD wrote: ↑Sat Nov 25, 2023 4:29 amGoogly was asking about permutations and such...its still way to early for that, but I will say this:

That's not a defensive team selection, in my view that's smart because someone like Wellington isn't really a significantly better bowler than Williams or Burl... So what's the point playing him just for the sake of playing an extra bowler? Even if willo Or burl are having a poor day there is Madhevere to fall back to as well... There are so many options.secretzimbo wrote: ↑Fri Nov 24, 2023 7:52 pmI’m definitely not, generally. Same with Jongwe, he is a good T20 bowler esp in these conditions, picking him over chatara isn't a bad call at all, and we get a very deep batting line up.

Yeah Zimbabwe made it up in the Tanzania game and are now ahead of UGA.sam_ahm wrote: ↑Sat Nov 25, 2023 4:46 amNo Mate, Uganda has lost to Namibia.
