If they really love this game and Zimbabwe cricket then this shouldn't be a happy Christmas anyway.
This is a bit ridiculous.

If your business or place of employment was struggling the way they are struggling you wouldn't have a happy Christmas. Sometimes I wish the ICC allocated money based on performances then maybe there would be a real threat to some of these guys. Not just the players but the whole institution.

Everyone who works at ZC is shielded from the harsh realities that Zimbabweans go through every day. They take it for granted but no let them get drunk or take part in whatever recreational activities they want for a week so that they go and get spanked by Sri Lanka and claim they don't play enough cricket, the selection process was wrong etc.

Half the test nations are playing on the 27th. They probably are in camp already and only have 1 day off. Sunday they will be training. Tuesday they will be training or playing. What's wrong with being asked to pitch on the 26th to prepare for a major tour? It is short notice because you are struggling on the field. It isn't business as usual.

Players have families, Christmas is most important day of the year for families.
Just because the players are poor and struggling doesn’t mean they should be exploited.
If it were planned in advance it might be a different story but players would have trips booked, weddings, all that.
It’s not right to just spring it on people. 1/2 games doesn’t really make a player anyway.
If chain plays and gets 50 and bennett gets a 3 ball duck it doesn’t change anything

Well for a start if you really really need a match on the 26th then surely have it in Harare where 90% of the players live rather than Bulawayo? That’s just plain stupidity. They’d have to travel down on Christmas Day.

Secondly how about announcing a domestic (including North/South matches) fixture list for the whole season before the season and then actually sticking to it like competent countries? It’s different with a bit of notice.
Sorry but giving people 5 days notice of a match is bad at any time but especially on the 26th Dec? All the players previously thought they had a free week and will have made plans. Most of the national guys have been full-on since the first Namibia tour.

It doesn’t matter how shit people perform you treat them with a bit of respect and dignity and you recognise the fact they have families, many have kids, Christmas is important, and not to mention a lot of the squad are probably pretty religious.

Anyway I hear they’ve cancelled it and the first match is the 28th so sanity has prevailed.

As for ‘yeah well Australia always play on boxing day’.

How much do Australian test players earn?

In the North/South games there will be up to a dozen guys invovled who aren’t even national contracts. $600 a month 6 months of the year and you are taking Christmas Day away from them :?

Just because the rest of the country has gone to the dogs and everyone lives a harsh reality I’m not sure we should necessarily want ZC and cricketers to be forced to do the same. ?

On Christmas I am going to have a shot of Vodka for every post you have said the word 'Dawg' tacked onto the end of a players name this weekend.

Paramedics on standby.
