The home of Zimbabwean former players & they should return
Re: Zimbabwean former players should return
I dont kno what the situation is with Charles Coventry? Apparetly he quit because he coudnt work with kevin curran as information sourced through cricinfo confirms this.
Now kevin curran is gone what is stopping him from coming back. He would be great in the One day/Twenty Twenty arena. Not convinced at test level but he is surely a talented player

CHARLES COVENTRY
Ya,Zimbo I agree with you.He will be a great player in ODI and Twenty-20 format. He has played 2 tests and 11 ODIs.His ODI striking rate is 85 and in test its 94!So he can hit the bowl for the maximum.
He has got a fifty(that is 74) in ODIs with an average of 19.90 and in test his average 22 with a best score of 37.He has to work to improve his batting average.
His last international appearance was back in 2006 against the Carribean. He was sent home by the coach of Zimbabwe then Kevin Curran for displinary reasons. He played first class matches in Zimbabwe in 2007 but didnt play the World Cup or World Twenty-20.As far as I know,he was contacted by the board. It is also said by cricinfo that he went to play club cricket in England.
He scored 320 in a 60 over match for his club in South Africa in Northern Premier League early in this year.
Here is the short scorecard of that matchFrom www.brmtaylor.com)
Northern Premier League
Pretoria High School Old Boys vs Centurion
P.H.S.O.B. (2/607 [60 overs], Coventry 320, van Heerden 204*) def. Cent. (10/105 [16.5 overs], du Plessis 40, Fawkes 3/13, Coetzee 3/55)
But he didnt return in Zimbabwe to play Logan Cup this year which isnt a good sign.
Anyway, the board should contact with him and he should return in Zimbabwe as Kevin Curran is no more the coach and with him he has the problems. If Coventry is back in the side,it will give the Zimbabwes middle order batting more strength and stability.

ZIMBABWEAN DEVELOPEMENT SQUAD (Unpolitical)
I have made a Zimbawean developement squad which consists of 16 players.I think, all these players have so much talent and they just need to perform and gather experience by playing. They should be given chance to play in practise matches when a team is touring Zimbabwe. They also should tour different countries to play in various conditions which will definitely help them in the future years.
1.Bradley Staddon (Age 24)
2.Mathew Williams (Age 18)
3.Gary Ballance (Age 19) *Currently playing English county cricket for Yorkshire
4.Malcolm Waller (Age 24)
5.Keegan Meth (Age 20) *Currently playing club cricket for Wanderes(SOU)
6.Ishmael Senzere (Age 27)
7.Alois Tichana (Age 24)

Re: Zimbabwean former players should return
Thanks for the information,tlse.20 years old Keegan Meth mede his ODI debute 6 months before his first class debute.I think,he is a batting allrounder coming at number 7 who can medium pace.In 5 ODIs he has a 50 with a batting average of 24.33 and played 3 first class matches best of 45 with an batting average of 22.50.But he averages only 12.77 in 14 domestic one day matches.
His bowlling in list A is good taking 13 wickets in 14 matches with an average of 19.69 and best figure 3/12.But he managed just 3 wickets in 3 first class matches at an average of 47.He has one wicket in 5 ODIs.
He is still young enough to improve all his domestic records. But both his batting and bowling developement is required.I have included him in the Zimbabwean Developement Squad now.

Re: Zimbabwean former players should return
Thanks for the information, tlse. But disappointing news really for Zimbabweas cricket prospective!!!tlse wrote:some news about keegan meth, he is in the squad with the highveld lions to play first class cricket. he want to play for south africa in the future. greg strydom another good player, left zimbabwe for new zealand were terry duffin play also, he has no intention to return playing for zim.
Ervine,Ireland is qualifying for England by playing country cricket there. Many Zimbabwean players r also engaged in playing club cricket England,South Africa,New Zealand and Australia. Now Meth also starts qualifying for South Africa.
Despite having a good first class record with an average of 38,Strydom always struggled in international level for his poor foot movement and shot selection. An average of 14.70 in 12 ODIs with just a fifty shows his defficiency.
I will be thankful if u can give me another information.Andy Blignaut wasnt paid by ZC and he refused to play and then no news about him.It is said that probably he is in South Africa.
Isnt he playing currently?
