I'm still completely at loss, so just to throw in an unusual name of someone who at least seems to have served in the Rhodesian army and played at little bit of FC cricket: Theo Passaportis.

Btw, of what origin is "Passaportis"? Possibly Greek? If it's of interest to anyone, there is a Zimbabwe-born Michael Passaportis playing Rugby in France. https://twitter.com/MikePasso

Btw, while reasearching this I have stumbled across the possibly only Rhodesian FC player born in Germany (not a German surname, but a German middle name), but no photo yet. If someone comes up with the name, there might be a bonus point on offer :)

The internet is full of intersting bits of knowledge about absolutely inconsequential stuff. :D

Yes, Theo Passaportis it is. Quite an unusual surname, tried searching for the source, and actually found quite a lot of Passaportis folks of Zim origin, including that Rugby player.

The photo comes from here: http://www.ourstory.com/thread.html?t=199135
Zimbabwe born actor Miles Anderson also mentions Theo Passaportis from his childhood days of Zambezi rafting plans here: http://www.milesanderson.us/chapter-18.html
And that colourful story of cricket match with the Indian club side, with Colonel Reg Walls, can be read here: http://books.google.co.in/books?id=PRNY ... #v=twopage (Rough Diamonds and Other Gems By Major General A.N.O. (Derry) MacIntyre)

I'll try to hunt that down...

Indeed, In fact, I can't believe how much I have researched about Passaportis in the last couple of days, trying to map all the articles to the same man. A fully functional "Semantic Web" of Tim Berners Lee's dreams would kill all the fun of quizzing :)

I got lucky there. :D There are quite a few cricketers of Greek origin who are part of Zim's/Rhodesia's cricketing history: Traicos, Passaportis, Deftereos, Frangos (?).

Nope.

Let me add he (the father) has represented Rhodesia in his playing days, if not very often.
