Pick your three to challange for national team places
Pick your three to challange for national team places
At the moment Zimbabwe cricket is at a bit of a cross roads with the players who were on the poor tours of Bangladesh and South Africa seemingly having had there last chance. We are now back into the domestic season where every player has a chance of being named in the next squad. I think we should all pick three players who we feel have a good chance of being named in the next squad.
My three are
Dion Ebrahim - Very much in the Brendan Taylor mode, he works the ball around in the gaps and can step it up in the latter overs. Would be a good candidate to come in at number four or five against the spinners. He has scored well in the domestic scene since his comeback and has been playing a good standard of cricket in England and New Zealand and at 29 should be reaching his peak as a batsman.
Keegen Meth - I believe he is our answer to the seem bowling alllrounder problems. He can open the bowling or bowl first change at a lively pace and is a very capable aggressive batsman similar to Chigumbura. Has performed well in the domestic competitions particular with the ball and could slot in well at number 8 in a side that has three seemers including Chigumnbura and two spinners.
Vusi Sibanda - Has shown how much loosing his national team place meant to him by breaking all kinds of records in the last two months. Has all the talent in the world and should be restored to the top of the order along side Masakadza ASAP.

1 Dion Ebrahim - opening or number 3, there was no stability/consistency in the top order at all as in the recent Bangladesh/ S.A. tour
2 Keegan Meth - our bowling needs extra seamers, we were short in this department.
3Vusi Sibanda - he still worth a run after the 44 in Banglagesh

Mine are probably :
Keegan Meth- as zimfan1 pointed out he could solve the bowling allrounder spot. I've seen him bowl at 82/83mph against the west indies in 2006 and he's scored a classy half centruy in the same series. Would be great if he could make a name for himself
Vusi Sibanda- No questions asked, this guy is class ! He deserves his place.
Craig ervine/Greg Lamb- I'm torn between the two. I've seen Craig Ervine bat, and i tell you what he's got some real talent. Plays a lot like Sean actually. But Gereg Lamb bowls some consistant off spin, and is probably the more consistant of the two. But he has his limitations and i'm not sure wether he'd be best suited for ODI Cricket.

When fit, Rainsford and Williams are sure shots, so I am looking beyond them:
1. Vusi Sibanda (So many centuries indicates just one thing: Class)
2. Craig Ervine
3. Timmy Maruma (don't know how to fit him, but he deserves to be there)
