Dave Houghton is the perfect coach, he has a connection to our golden era but is also astute at managing the current realities of Zimbabwe.

BT is banned until middle of 2025 Googly. More chance of them giving me the job , even if he wasn’t banned

As much as I love Zim, we must agree we do not have good batters in the team other than big 3. If you see other associate teams or teams like BD, Ireland and even Afg, they have very stable opening pair and solid lower order. I think that was the difference between us and them. Our tail was too long and we got exposed when big 3 got out cheaply.
I am not worried about our fast bowling, but batting will haunt us for a long time. The only guys who have scored some runs were Innocent and Gumbie, but it does not look like they are consistent or belong to international cricket. Our young players are raw and need lots of exposure until we see any improvements. The only guy I think will come good is Dion Myers if he keeps playing. Wez is not a guy who can score 100, he is more like a 60-70 guy if he gets going. Clive and Marumani look ok, not sure if Shumba will make it. Then we have N Welch, who looks overrated and has not done nothing in Leics. Other options are Bennet, Matty Welch and Patel, but they are very young and dont know if they will stay.

Burl is a pretty solid batter to be fair to him. Not big 3 level, but not Wez level either lol. But ya, slim pickings.

I think Burl could be the next big thing though. I've said it for years that he's a top 4 batter.
Keep incorporating Bennett into the A side for the foreseeable, and any development sides. That boy can play. Hopefully this tournament has ignited some fire into the under 19's who were there at HSC watching. Patel, as mentioned, sounds like a special player. We just need to try and find a genuine pace bowler

I think both Welch's could come good, but they need to sing on sooner than later. We can't afford to wait two years for them to make up their minds. I'm guessing there is no chance of a Ballance return?

No way after he betrayed us like that! Taylor and Cremer have better chances of returning than Ballance. Screw him!

It doesn't seem he "betrayed". As far as he remains consistent on his retirement, there is nothing to argue.zimbofan88 wrote: ↑Thu Jul 06, 2023 5:35 pmNo way after he betrayed us like that! Taylor and Cremer have better chances of returning than Ballance. Screw him!
My hope, however, is that he DOESN'T remain consistent, my hope is that he rethink on his decision and comes back.
Being that the case the last thing to do would be to screw the best batsman in a (narrow) roster of good batsmen.

I think we need to identify new talent to blood into our team and we will be up and running again with Dave on our side, the boys will learn quickly and hope the results start flowing in sooner. We surely need to improve to be better than Afghanstan and BD
