cameron would reject call up
Re: cameron would reject call up
Yeah that is a good point. There seems to be little to no interaction or communication the zimbabwean cricketing diaspora. Maybe it could be good if our younger players go and play country cricket for a few seasons and then come back and challenge for the national side. The cricketing education they will get in the UK will be better than anything they could ever get in Zimbabwe. The obvious problem with this is getting them back once they have gone.

Re: cameron would reject call up
To be honest he hasn't done anything since titanic

Just wondering who actually asked him about a call up? For what i have heard and read it doesn't seem like he would be someone Zim would go running after. Sure Sean Ervine would add a lot to our team, but we have a few other players of a similar quality as Cameron. He would be welcomed by most of our provincial outfits to add strength to their batting line up to be sure. But i have my doubts about him walking into a national contract without doing a season in the domestic tournament. That my change though if he does well and all that i am sure that there will be some calls for his inclusion. But with the Ervine saga i guess we have gone off overseas based players a bit. It used to be talked about a lot in ZCF. Great that we have enough talent at home though.
Still we should be in talks with all of these players, i struggle to see where the harm is in finding out what their plans are and preventing speculation at a later stage.

Re: cameron would reject call up
The two biggest losses' to Zimbabwean Cricket over the past decade was Murray Goodwin, Sean Ervine and Anthony Ireland. All three could have been greats of the Zimbabwean game, particularly Murray Goodwin! Anthony Ireland probably would walk into any Zimbabwe national team, just because he adds pace, height and bounce to an attack that lacks any 'nasty' quick bowlers. Mpofu's too nice and neither Jarvis nor Nicholson is anywhere to be seen.
And this is mainly at ZIMDOGGY:
What do you mean Greg Lamb's past his peak point. I think he has a lot to offer Zimbabwe, both with the bat and with the ball...

Hey sloandog I am a lamb fan as much as anyone, look at my posting history, I rate him Nd think the test arena will be his chance to shine.
That said, from my understanding he isn't the player he was 5 years ago when he could dominate an attack, could be a confidence thing but I read somewhere he top scored in one of the t20 tournaments over there.
Couldn't see modern lamb doing that

Re: cameron would reject call up
Having followed Anthony Ireland's progress at Middlesex I must dispute the idea that he would walk back into the Zimbabwe side. He's barely featured for his county, who are struggling in the second division, in the Championship and while he may move the ball in English conditions he's certainly not a big, nasty fast bowler. He simply doesn't have the pace. Shingi Masakadza is quicker, and I'd rate Mpofu far higher than Ireland.
Cameron's championship season has also been dire (averaging around 17 at time of writing) but he has at least played some really good knocks in the CB40.
Warne seemed to get the best out of Greg Lamb when he was at Hampshire - but he seems to have that effect on so many people he's played with. There was a comment above that with Lamb it may be a confidence thing, I'd agree with that. He was one of the Hants t20 stars for a couple of seasons.

My point exactly - when I see lamb in action he is a nudger who doesn't hit boundaries but the fact he was a t20 superstar with a strike rate of 180ish just astounds me. I hope he revisits his days as a dasher.
The other point I'd like To make about the diaspora is that they all seem to be proud zimboks.
Ervine spends half his free time in Zimbabwe, Cameron says he is proud and Ireland has pics all over his facebook in Africa and him doing African type of things In it, you'd think the boy never left.
Given that, who knows what a bit of attention can do.

Re: cameron would reject call up
If you saw the last match against kenya that Lamb played In where he was more basher than nudger the truth becomes very apparent
Playing for hampshire is a bit different to playing international cricket, Though the english system is strong it is not akin to playing against sri lanka or australia where lamb really didnt do much against in his matches in world cup

I think peeps are holding onto the Ireland of old and how they remembered him and the potential he had. Much like how I was looking forward to Panyangaras return based on his potential. As for Greg lamb he would have no place in any of my 11's.

We should forget Ireland and focus on who we have got. I'd have lamb as a squad player only. He has some value but there are far better out there.
