Match Thread: Only Test Zimbabwe v Ireland (6th -10th February 2025)

Post by zimfan1 »

Here we go. Feels like a much more low key build up than the Afghanistan series. Should be another competitive match between the two sides. Hope this Richie bounces out PJ again though.

Looking at the squad, I feel that only one of Campbell or Welch will play, probably Welch based on Ervine, Williams and Bennett likely to be at numbers 4.5 and 6. Imagine that Mawayo will get the keeping slot with Kataino opening with Gumbie.

Yeah, agree with that on the likely team, except Kaitano opening with Curran!

Bowling attack will surely be Masekesa, Nyamhuri, Ngarava and Muzarabani.

Campbell to carry the drinks.

Going to be some hate from certain quarters with five of the top 6 tomorrow.

Should be a very good competitive slog here. Important game for both teams, even more so than the last game, given the Afghans had the luxury of not relying on a positive result to raise their profile.

Zimbabwe will be apprehensive given that against Ireland and Afghanistan, they were recently not just ahead, but in COMMANDING positions, only to go on and lose Tests vs both.

Hopefully this is a game that goes well into the 4th day at least, and even better if it goes all 5 days.

Loosing Williams is such a blow but is sort of opens up a place for Campbell who has been warming the bench for quite a bit. The fact that he is in all the 3 squads means the do rate him.
