Who do you think is the most promising player in Zimbabwe?

Post by brmtaylor.com admin »

Graeme Cremer for mine. I know he's quite established already, but I think he has the potential to fly very high.
Every time he bowls I always feel he's a chance - and the more matches he plays and the more experience he gains the more he'll threaten.
I'm also excited about the prospects of him batting at number 8, especially in Test cricket where an extra 50 odd run partnership could be very important. I didn't realise until looking at his stats just then that he averaged over 30 with the bat in the last World Cup.

Who do you think is the most exciting prospect?

I have to disagree. I hadn’t watched Cremer for any real period of time until the test match in New Zealand. To me he doesn’t push the ball through quick enough ie. Is a ‘slow’ leg spin bowler who will be unable to trouble world class batsmen, even though I admit he can get turn.

Australia have trialed ‘promising’ leg-spinners like White and Steve Smith that haven’t cut it at the highest level. It is the most difficult bowling style to excel at and I put Cremer with these guys. Feel that if he stays in the test side, he’ll be a bloke that will be a risk to bowl, sure he might get a wicket, but could be 1/100 off 18 overs too.

As a suggestion for a promising player, I’m still drowning my sorrows from the NZ tour - I’ll leave it to someone else.

Cremer is infallible in these parts! Your honest assessment might be misconstrued for hating him!

Seeing as Cremer was mentioned, I think of the current players Vusi will be our most dominant player! But of the future players, hard to say because there's plenty of guys who show different signs - Mushangwe a leg spinner who will get you 4-6 wickets in a Test match but cost far less, Sauramba's fearless big hitting, combined with his wicketkeeping abilities means he'll be a force to be reckoned with in the the two short formats(while Ragis&Mutumbami battle for the Test gloves), Kasuza's promise with the bat, Muzhange's disciplined, wicket-taking seam bowling!

However, I like what I've seen of Nathan Waller. He's my pick to be a specialist ODI&T20 player. Might very well be our most expensive IPL player in the near future. He's my most promising player. Watch this space.

Kyle Jarvis is my most exciting player to watch, but of the future crop, i'd also choose nathan waller, who continues to take wickets in every game he plays

Tendai Chatara. He's genuinely quick, without striving extravagantly for pace. He's got, at least in my untrained eyes, a nice, smooth uncomplicated action, and will take heaps of wickets for the national side in the future. I only pray the selectors will not prematurely throw him into the T20 series against the Saffers.

i'll answer this based on the little i've seen ... i have to say, contrary to most of my posts on him, Vitori is for me the most promising... he can bowl quick (needs to work on stamina), he can move it laterally and he varies his angles (if only he could turn the 2 good balls per over into 4/5 - as Zimdoggy mentioned is min requ. of an international bowler - he'll be a genuine handful imo), BUT he's farther from the finished article than possibly even Nicolson. My gut tells me Waller is another Meth ... whom i'm still hoping turns a corner and delivers internatinally!

I dont think Waller is going to be a test player, maybe a T20 and ODI specialist.

If you recall during his only international against India, he was pretty quick, but not as quick as we saw him in that T20 competition recently.

I never imagined he could bowl that quick, he really shocked me, and I highlighted as much. He was way quicker than Shingi, but for some reason he played just two matches the playoff and the final. My impression of him is of a seamer who skids the ball, more than he bounces it. He still needs a lot of coaching before he can play at international level, but the same can be said about all the current bowlers who've just joined the ranks.

Chitara bowled 87mph in that T20 against India, you reckon he was bowling quicker in the recent T20 Hhm ? Is a serious question, not being sarcastic :D
