[Match Thread] Zimbabwe A v South Africa A - Final
Re: [Match Thread] Zimbabwe A v South Africa A - Final
A solid effort today, we would have won had Craig Ervine played instead of Matsi.

Of all the players who played in the series Mawoyo let me down the most. His captaincy was below par especially selection of bowlers as his decisions seemed to come of a script he got before the start of each game. There were moments we needed to choke the opposition but did not take the initiative and ended up giving our adversaries a get out of jail pass.Mawoyo can also be singled out as having a poor run rate for an opener , which cost us in all the games with SA A an opener needs to be aggressive up front to get the innings going. For me Mawoyo is a test player period. Our performance had some positives with the bowling department being the revelation of this series.

Sure Matsi did not have his best day at the office but to blame him for the loss is very harsh. Tino and Vusi let us down very badly at the top of the order.
Perhaps Craig was off doing the Lords work

Absolutely they said it was a combination of the pitch and good bowling.Zimfanatic69 wrote:Tino and Vusi let us down very badly at the top of the order.

Overall, this series has been very positive for us. On the one hand, some new (or newish) names have been given the chance to measure themselves against quality opposition, and quite a few have proved to be up to the task.
Another consideration is measuring how far we've come in the last 6-7 years. Just after the rebel saga, we didn't even have what it took to put up a competitive team for regular international matches, let alone for A team matches.
Do you think this A team would be able to beat the main team of 2006? My feeling is yes.

Peterhouse U14C 4th change bowler and no. 10 batsman (but only because Aaron didn't have a bat).

Yes, I think they would.
This was our full ODI side for the match against Sri Lanka at the Champions Trophy in 2006, a very weak side in my opinion. Only Masakadza, Taylor, Chigumbura, Utseya, Mupariwa and Ireland deserve a mention.
1. T Mufambisi
2. P Rinke
3. C. Chibhabha
4. H. Masakadza
5. B. Taylor
6. S. Matsikenyeri
7. E. Chigumbura
8. P. Utseya
9. T. Mupariwa
10. A. Ireland
11. T. Kamungozi

It does not look good though the score is below par for me the top order didnt take off and at least Chikabva has performed well with the Bat i have always been a big supporter of Regis.

Piet RInke, LOL.
What a bloater. He must have been 120 Kgs.
He made Greg Strydom look svelte.

Rinke was a power hitter at the top of the order and was one of our best players when we 'upset' Kenya in an ODI series in Zimbabwe - we have come along way since then. Unfortunately our competition hasn't stood still either.
