Assumption

If Steve Mangongo's aim is to purge our national side of white players (meaning no Taylor, no Ervine, Price, Williams etc), I will completely wash my hands of Zimbabwean Cricket for the sole purpose that no matter how hard the players may fight for a fair, and democratic national side, Tw***** like Bvute, Chingoka, AC will use it for their own personal gain, and having no white players in the side would be a clear indication that racism runs the cricket in Zimbabwe, not the love for the sport.

Yea i'm assuming Cricket fans will turn their backs, i can't tell for sure and yes many will stick with ZC through thick and thin. But im sure there will be people like myself who will eventually get tired of the politics and the off field plays, knowing that no matter how hard and how far Zimbabwe go to achieve success, it will almost always be knocked back due to the political mess the country's in.

Mangongo is a thug, and if he becomes the coach of the national side.....

Brandan Taylor is right to speak out about the cut in coaching staff! Why do we cut them on the first place? That's a step in the wrong direction . Look at sides like the Proteas,Aussies they travel with their support staff I.e the batting and the bowling coaches . Heath Streak and Grant Flower have gone so much for the Zimbabwe cricket both as players and coaches. If Zimbabwe want to win or let alone compete and higher level of international cricket, they need the experience and knowledge of the likes of Streak and Flower because these guys have performed in the international arena. Who is Mangongo? What has he achieved in international cricket? He is the one who should be left behind! He doesn't know what it takes to perform at international level.

Did Taylor write more than this on Facebook?
"It's a MASSIVE concern not having Grant,Heath and Lorraine with us for the upcoming tour to the West Indies. For me personally as a captain and a batter and I can speak on behalf of the others in the side we are taking steps in the wrong direction by doing this. We will never have a guy like Grant Flower ever again as a batting coach and this is how they are being treated, his work ethic is second to none. Qualified as a level 4 coach ( can't get any higher) I recall times where he has thrown to the guys from 9am through to 5pm for weeks on end. You might say that is his job,but no one will do it better. The bit of success that myself and others have had over the past couple years, I put that down to Grant Flower. People are saying the preparation should have been done prior to the tour, that's correct! But preparation on tour is vital to,let alone their knowledge, advice and their experience that could shared on a daily basis. In saying this all we hope to do everyone proud and sincerely appreciate your support. Let's hope changes are made!!!!"
Brendan Taylor
I ask because the dumb Minister was at it again, taking the word of a 26 year old, then responding to Cricinfo questions without verifying anything:
Coltart later told ESPNcricinfo: "I am concerned to note that although Zimbabwe Cricket state that they had consulted the players prior to making this decision it appears as if they did not, at the very least, consult the captain. Be that as it may I think that all measures possible need to be taken to build a cohesive spirit within the team in the build up to the tour to the West Indies, and I encourage Zimbabwe Cricket to bear that in mind in all the decisions they make.

"Given the concerns raised by the captain, concerns which the captain states are shared by the rest of the players, I trust that Zimbabwe Cricket will take their views into account and review this decision in the best interests of both cricket and Zimbabwe. This tour is not just about cricket but about the positive branding of Zimbabwe as a nation. For that reason it is imperative that Zimbabwe Cricket always act in the national interest."
- At no point has Cricinfo quoted Brendan Taylor himself explicitly say he was not consulted, but the mad minister turned and inch into a mile(yes Zimdoggy)
- Taylor says "I can speak on behalf of the others in the side"; Coltart says the rest of the players. Two different things. Taylor can get away by naming 3 or four individuals, you on the other hand Senator, will have to account for everyone! ZC has already said Utseya, Taylor, Elton, Price & Muzhange(probably representing the youngsters), were involved in consultation.
- Why does the Minister lament this decision, or urge ZC to review it, and consider the views of a misguided captain and fellow sympathisers within the team? The leaders were causing the divisions, so those without permanent roles or obligations, were removed since they were the primary culprits. If the world is comfortable with a branding of Zimbabwe that says coaches who cause divisions should be part of the team, then I think Zimbabwe should hang on to their ugly image. At this moment, it woul dbe best for the beleaguered Minister to stay clear of comments relating to cricket. He's not helping anyone, or himself for that matter!
According to minutes of that meeting, Campbell asked the players if there was unity within the camp and Taylor said the team was not pulling in the same direction.
- Houghton also asked if the players felt the coaching staff had differences, which both Utseya and Taylor confirmed.
- Chigumbura felt the structure was too big adding that he preferred to work under a coach and assistant only.
- Houghton explained that there was no harmony in the team. It is understood there are factions within the team and players take instructions from their preferred coaches. There are players who choose to listen to Streak only, which is why the former captain has fallen victim.
- It is against this background that the committee recommended a technical structure with a head coach, assistant coach, analyst, physiotherapist, fitness trainer and a manager to be appointed on a tour by tour basis.
Why doesn't Cricinfo tell the world what needs to be heard - illegal manipulation of SRC by Coltart - minutes of meetings or proof of communication - which clarify the Coltart-Makoni-AC saga; as well as the ZC-Specialist Coaches saga? Anyone?

Cricinfo? Not a chance. Coltart has not conducted himself well in this whole saga, especially by going back and forth in the media, posting on FB. he should have done this behind closed doors and SUMMONED Makoni and rather dealt with ZC. He has all these powers and influence at his disposal. BT made a mistake in the way he voiced his opinion, he was supposed to follow the channels of communication that are there. But guess he wanted public support and international support. but methinks someone put him up to this by planting a seed in his mind and he didnt consider the repurcussions. i hope ZC punish him, just like i hoped ZC would punish Tibba for his outburst, fine him, but again it depends what is stipulated in the bylaws, what such an offence deserves . And if BT is going to be sulky cos Heath and Grant are not going then he needs to do a "Ross Taylor" cos he probably wont be in the right frame of mind. I think they must get over the fact that these two are not going cos I dont think ZC will do a U turn.

1. Coltart doesn't have these powers and if he did, he'll be ignored as has happened recently. He does though, have influence and one of those is the pulpit. He can get things to everyone's attention more than any player or official can.

2. Is dissent now prohibited? should ZC now censure every player/official who disagrees with them? There's this idea entrenched in Zim thinking that if you belong to an organisation you must always follow the party line, as if disagreement is tantamount to revolution.

3. Of course ZC won't do a u turn now cos it'll be too embarrassing, eating humble pie isn't in the DNA. But all the important cricket people whose job is to ensure good results on the pitch - the coach and the captain - have come out against this decision. But saving ZC face is more important than doing all to ensure good results on the pitch.

The gst of that is that as the sports minister he has some influence, and would be given an ear if he had said lets have meeting to ZC

All I am saying is there if there is a prescribed way and you dont follow it then you are punished not for what you say but for the channels you use. You are an employee, so you still need to abide by the law of the org, Whether you are right or wrong, you need to follow the channels. Not following the channels will get your cause to the public and get their sympathy /support but you will also know that it comes with repercussions.

One area where Coltart hasn't been too clever is responding publicly to whatever mud/valid arguments (depending on your point of view) has been flung his way. He's let himself be sucked into a spiral of no return by his detractors.

Conspiracy theory no 34578: Those of you who see AC and his clique as Machiavelian schemers might say that AC and co deliberately let this happen to deflect attention from themselves. Coltart is the lightening rod. They've been very silent throughout.

Is there a prescribed way? There's no players' association, and a long-standing tradition of responding to complaints formulated in any way, shape or form,by a giant 'up yours'!
Peterhouse U14C 4th change bowler and no. 10 batsman (but only because Aaron didn't have a bat).

In a properly functioning organisation, this is completely correct. There'd be a lot of people who would question whether ZC is a properly functioning organisation, though. Their track record when criticised is to go on the attack, not to listen reasonably - the one exception being the ICC's report on the state of cricket in the country and what needed to be done to get it back on track again, and they were accepting of that because their Full Member status and ICC funding depended on them being compliant.

I don't know if Taylor tried to go through 'channels' before speaking out or not. By rights, he certainly should have. But if he raised concerns and didn't get a response to them, I don't think going public is unreasonable. Emphasis there for a reason - as ever, we only ever see snippets of the real story.

So according to maehara, it's ok for disgruntled employees to castigate their employers, simply because maehara and others deem ZC to be an improperly functioning organisation!

If anarchy is acceptable, then I see no reason why you should find fault with ZC if they severely punish Taylor and Jarvis for crossing them.

Employees cannot and will never assume precedence and superiority over the employer. When you sign a contract, whether express or implied, you abide by the rules of the employer at all times. You can never go public about anything that you're unhappy with, in an attempt to force your hand. Your only option is to walk away and stay away.

I can see why there are problems in Zimbabwe. It's because people feel the need to fix things that don't fall under their jurisdiction instead of walking away. Why doesn't he become like Sean Ervine & Ballance? There is no shortage of people who are not unhappy with the way things are, and always ready to step in.

I have countless former schoolmates and business colleagues who are quite content struggling along in Zim, have no desire to emigrate, and are strongly behind the much maligned regime. So if you're not happy, especially if you were not given an audience to express your views - leave! Only then can you criticise. Don't criticise, and leave it to your employer to fire you and you appear the victim, so the capitalist media can run the stories along those lines.

Be it a democracy, autocracy, perfectly functioning, or improperly functioning organisation, you will be punished for going beyond the organisation. We see so may footballers fined lots of money for saying things on twitter. Some, e.g. Roy Keane, have had their contract terminated for speaking about what is none of their business. And what did Mankini say to Joe Hart for expressing his opinion? "Joe Hart should stay in goal and make saves. If anyone should criticise the team it should be me, not Joe Hart. I am the judge, not Joe Hart."

You remember, Afridi gave media statements, complaining about Waqar's involvement in team selection. He had also discussed his issues with Waqar and a senior travelling officer. When he got back home he was replaced by Misbah as ODI captain. In this case, Taylor & Jarvis, are not only complaining about a coach. They are complaining against ZC itself. ZC doesn't need their opinion in the running of its organisation.

You guys here are not serious! Proper functioning organisation? Didn't Kevin Pietersen write an emailing expressing his views and got sacked as captain (resigned if you prefer to be kind)!? I doubt you'd say the ECB, like PCB&ZC is an improper organisation.

You're great at putting words into people's mouths. For a start, you should note the bolded if in my post. It's important, because:
maehara wrote:Emphasis there for a reason - as ever, we only ever see snippets of the real story.
I don't know exactly what happened, and neither do you. We're both speculating. So according to me - and to correct the opening line of your post -"it's ok for disgruntled employees to castigate their employers if they've tried the 'proper channels', they haven't worked, and they genuinely believe there's an issue that needs to be addressed".

I also don't say anywhere that he shouldn't face any repercussions for speaking out - Taylor's worked for ZC for long enough to know they don't react kindly to such things, and if he has any sense he'll have considered that before speaking out. But if he's prepared to deal with that, that's his decision.
