Logan Cup: Since the start of last season 11* matches, 863 runs, average 47.94, 2 tons and 5 fifties.
(The season before that, 2011-12, he only scored 300 runs at 18.75)

Another 50 for Mutumbami.

And in unrelated news, whatever happened to Ed Rainsford?

Mutumbambi goes on and on, a class act at the Rocks amongst unreached potential of the young batsman that surround him, hope to see him in the ODI side as well this summer.

No one seems to be talking about Nyumbu but he is taking stacks of wickets, should we look at him as the number 1 test spinners for the tests against South Africa, Bangladesh and Pakistan at the end of the year?

I did mention his exploits in the game previous to the last round, when he got a big match haul in the Logan Cup. In the last couple of seasons, he rarely got to bowl decent spells thanks to Querl, Meth, Mpofu and Ncube (when he played) - and there was that import too, the opening bowler - cleaning up sides leaving nothing for Nyumbu. Getting better opportunities this season for sure.

He could be again a safety first option, I think. Tall, a la Suleiman Benn of the WI. But how do we know what kind of impact he might have? A couple of A series would have helped to assess him. Munyede looks mightly impressive from his exploits so far, Wellington had a dream debut and an eyewitness said he is brave and attacking - may be lacks the consistency still, Mushangwe still deserves his chances in Tests while Mutombodzi tries to emulate Maruma. Utseya in T20s - still needed, but we need to look at attacking options in tests. So, this is definitely one slot wide open. But gut feeling says, we might see Mugochi in national colours playing that role ahead of all other I mention here, provided he has a good end to the season.

So, is this the pool of spinners for now?

Actual spin options:
Utseya, Mushangwe, Mutombodzi, Nyumbu, Munyede, Mugochi, Wellington Masakadza

Percieved spinners:
Maruma, Kamungozi

How about Williams doing a Duminy and we go with 4 pacers? (Chats, Choki, Shingi, Vits)

That hasn't worked very well for South Africa. Plus Williams isn't even in our best Test XI at the moment. He could replace Chigumbura, but I think Raza is still ahead of Williams at the moment, after a good debut match.

I'd prefer a front line spinner in the side. I think the selectors need to take a risk, and select the best spinner in this seasons Logan Cup. But can the selectors be trusted to pick the right person.

Raza ahead of Williams? Don't think so. Williams is of higher quality.

At HSC definitely an option.
