Batsman Mark Vermeulen, whose career has been troubled by off-field incidents, has been picked in Zimbabwe's A squad for the tour to Bangladesh. Zimbabwe A are scheduled to play two four-day and three one-day games during the trip, but the final schedule will be announced at a later date.

Vermeulen, who has played eight Tests and 43 ODIs in the past, was the second-highest run-getter in the first-class season, scoring 580 runs at an average of 64.44 with one century and four fifties. Regis Chakabva, who scored the most first-class runs has also been named in the squad along with pacer Donald Tiripano and offspinner John Nyumbu, the leading wicket-takers in the 2013-14 first-class season. Chakabva, along with Shingi Masakadza, Tino Mawoyo and Malcolm Waller, were a part of the squad in Zimbabwe's previous Test, against Pakistan in September 2013.

Vermeulen, however, is one of the five players who will return after the four-dayers. A group of five players, including Sikandar Raza, who are being groomed as 50-over specialists will join the team in Bangladesh.

The squad will prepare for the tour with a camp in Harare, which will include a two-day game and two one-dayers. The team will depart for Bangladesh on June 28.

Zimbabwe A squad for four-dayers: Regis Chakabva, Brian Chari, Michael Chinouya, Luke Jongwe, Roy Kaia, Timycen Maruma, Shingi Masakadza, Tinotenda Mawoyo, Brighton Mugochi, Tinotenda Mutombodzi, Raymond Mutumbami, John Nyumbu, Donald Tiripano, Mark Vermeulen, Malcolm Waller

Additions for one-dayers Sikandar Raza (for Mark Vermeulen), Joylord Gumbie (for Roy Kaia), Tafadzwa Kamungozi (for John Nyumbu), Neville Madziva (for Michael Chinouya), Forster Mutizwa (for Malcolm Waller)

Im happy with the squad, no majpr names missing apart from perhaps Mupariwa but think i read something about hm preferring to spend the season in Ireland rather than play any A team cricket.

Thinking a bit more about things bit surprised to see that Mushawange has not made the cut.

PJ Moor was probably 'Moor' deserving of a limited overs spot than Mutizwa but his availability would have been a big question mark .....

Happy enough with the squad. Good to see players like Tiripano and Madziva get rewarded a place in the squad after strong domestic seasons.

Who is Raymond Mutumbami? Maybe Richmond's alter ego?

so the 'A' team being a stepping stone to the first team proper what are Vermulen's chances here if he does play well on tour. is there a place for him in the national side. Great prospect indeed.

That's a bit puzzling. Even if you rate him as the top spinner in Zim at the moment he needs all the experience he can get.

The fact 'Mad Mark' is in the squad better mean the selectors are actually considering him for a national recall otherwise this is a pointless exercise ....

Also the fact guys like Raza, Malcolm, Mawoyo and Maruma are in the squad where does this leave Sean Williams ?? Sean hasn't played much test cricket so does this mean he is behind all the guys selected or is he a certainty like Hami, Vusi, Elton and BRMT ???

Williams ought to be a certainty for playing the tough sides

Yeah you would think but the fact he hasn't played the last 4 tests makes me nervous the selectors might not feel the same way .....
