Hey all! Today being Left hander's day I took some time to compile a Lefties' XI so here goes:
1. Barney Rogers
2. Neil Johnson
3. Alistair Campbell (c)
4. Andy Flower (wk)
5. Craig Ervine
6. Sean Williams
7. Sean Ervine
8. Ray Price
9. Brian Vitori
10. Brian Strang
11. Malcolm Jarvis
12th man Keith Dabengwa
Pretty strong XI imo. Hope I didn't forget any big names

Re: Left Hander's XI
There was a guy who used to unleash blitzkrieg with both bat and ball once in a while...

Re: Left Hander's XI
Andy Blignuat he used to clock it at 145km/hr.
CHRISTOPHER MPOFU: 'The problem was fear of failure. I used to think that when I played, if I didn't do well in one game, I would lose my place for the next one but now I've let go of that'

Re: Left Hander's XI
Yeah, thought about including Blignaut, but he was a right arm bowler and doesn't qualify as a bowler. As a batsman I don't think he's any better than the seven batsmen on the list so he misses out...

Re: Left Hander's XI
Yeah, but I think Bliggie can still give Sean Ervine a run for his money for the all rounder slot. At least he can topple the 12th man?
By the way, if we are looking at an all time XI, we should consider our first skipper too, Duncan Fletcher.
But a great team that you have complied. Very balanced. But there aren't many names outside of this who spring up. Gavin Rennie is one, but Barney is way ahead in class anyway

Re: Left Hander's XI
Was Barney Rogers all that good ? I never ever saw him bat, but only heard that he won a man of the series award against Bangladesh in 2005. Has an average of 31 in ODI's
Re: Left Hander's XI
Barney Rogers certainly had potential as an opener and played very well in Bangladesh.
Neil Johnson, Alistair Campbell, Murray Goodwin, Andy Flower (w), Grant Flower, Dave Houghton, Guy Whittall, Heath Streak (c), Andy Blignaut, Ray Price, Eddo Brandes
Re: Left Hander's XI
Rogers's domestic and international efforts were as good as any of the other players we regularly lock into XIs. Aside from Taylor and maybe Williams.
Re: Left Hander's XI
I always thought Gavin Rennie was a solid performer. Definitely a better option than Dabengwa. You also have the option of Terry Duffin.
Also just had a quick look at Barney Rogers stats. At 31, he could still potentially play for Zim. Not sure if he is still playing the game anymore or anything like that, but definitely has the stats to be an international test starter, particularly ahead of Vusi at the moment.
On a side note, talking of left handers, how good is this hair?

Re: Left Hander's XI
Barney Rodgers is simply too over weight now, and in addition to this he left his franchise in 2009 as he was reportedly fed up. Familiar story isn't it. Apparently Rogers genuinely had a solid technique! There are brief highlights on YouTube which I have just watched, and he seemed to have a lot of time!zimbos_05 wrote:I always thought Gavin Rennie was a solid performer.
