[Confirmed] Rumours BRMT has signed with Notts
Re: [Confirmed] Rumours BRMT has signed with Notts
Its such a shame he is leaving, BD vs Zim matches won't be the same anymore..
Re: [Confirmed] Rumours BRMT has signed with Notts
Neil Manthorpe on TMS has said he has spoken to BT and the reason for him leaving is because he wants to play more cricket on a regular basis and because of the fixture list that Zimbabwe have, it is not going to give him to oppotunity to do so.
Manthorpe also said he has had 6 overs in the last few years but with his new born son he feels he has the security, but does not rule out him returning in the future.

This sucks. No need to congratulate him, plenty of very average cricketers have got Kolpak deals over the years. I hope he does well, but this is terrible news for Zim.
Re: [Confirmed] Rumours BRMT has signed with Notts
As gutted as I am that he is leaving im sure everyone that has lived in Zim can understand his reasons for leaving for now.
I just hope that we can see him back playing for Zimbabwe one day.
Its time for us to find our new BT. If that means throwing a Ryan Burl over whoever into the team to learn their trade then so be. But I dont think we can replace him with a Matsi.
Touch wood we can keep a hold of Sean. If he goes as well then things shall be bleak.

He has left the door open to playing for Zimbabwe, after the three-year deal with Nottinghamshire expires, but could also go on to qualify for England.

I know he has left the door open, and that is like a little glimmer of hope, but it is no consolation.
I can understand his decision for his family. Everyone has to make those decisions, and you cant begrudge a father and husband making a decision for his wife and kids.
For everything Zim has gone through, BT always stuck there. He was always Mr Zimbabwe Cricket. He always gave his all. He never once even seemed to contemplate leaving. If he was ever going to leave, there would have been so many chances in the past for him to do so. He never did. He always stuck in.
I suppose his decision now makes me question why now? What have ZC done? Is there not enough money for him? How then do things look promising if your test captain is leaving?
Those are questions I will have for myself. It cant be asked of Brendan. We are going to miss him in 3 years of his best cricketing years. It really is heartbreaking and saddening. He was always the person who you looked to for comfort as a Zim fan in these last 11 years. Despite all who left, BT always stuck around, and to see him now go, just

Agree completely. Mr Zimbabwe Cricket is a good way to put it. He's the heart of the team. It stands to reason that Zimbabwe's success is normally a reflection of his personal success.zimbos_05 wrote:I know he has left the door open, and that is like a little glimmer of hope, but it is no consolation.

Yeah, to me this doesn't feel like one of those situations where a player has turned his back on Zimbabwe cricket. He's stuck faithfully by ZC through thick and thin over the last decade and a bit and never jumped ship, he put in the hard yards and carried the team for a long time. I can't pinpoint what this does feel like... maybe it's like leaving a job that you really like because you don't want to look back and have regrets about that opportunity you never took. The decision must be so much more difficult given the emotional attachment there must be to playing for your country and the fact that a sportspersons career can only span a certain number of years.GregorPJ wrote:As gutted as I am that he is leaving im sure everyone that has lived in Zim can understand his reasons for leaving for now.

You just have to look at that interview on Cricinfo to see he is genuinely sad to be leaving the Zimbabwe team. If ZC could offer the sort of job security, regular fixtures and professional cricket environment that even a county team can offer then it's hard to see him ever leaving. But alas, at any given time ZC seem able to only offer one of those three things while the other two fall away. He doesn't strike me as someone who would leave to chase just one of those things either, but the allure of all three (and maybe there are other reasons too) might have been too strong at this stage of his life.
I hope he returns to the Zimbabwe team as well, but we have to accept that there's a good likelihood this weekends game against India will be his last
No matter what happens, he's served Zimbabwe with distinction and the history books will remember him as someone in the top tier of Zimbabwean cricketers.

So sad, but yet so understandable.
Good luck, BT. Thanks for sticking it out through all those years.
