Nah, Vitori was a hardened domestic stalwart by 2011 when he made his Test debut.
It's easy to forget that Vitori has been around since the bad old days - the 2006 Faithwear series.
In all seriousness, the way the braintrust shielded Vitori from the Bangladeshi's and then unleashed him in the Test match was one of the greatest masterstrokes - probably the greatest tactical masterstroke - in the history of Zimbabwean cricket.
Perhaps Vitori can reinvent himself into a spinner and pinch-hitting no 3 batsman?
