eugene wrote:Can we just stop debating this in ever post. hhm thinks Rainsford, Panyangara, and Mutendera are better, others think Jarvis, Vitori, and Mpofu are better. Let's just leave it at that. There is no way of knowing how good/bad Rainsford would have done in yesterday's match because he didn't play in it. Jarvis clearly needs to improve but then Rainsford was no big deal when he was playing either.
Sorry, but this is not about other players, this is specifically about Jarvis, Zimbabwe's leading seamer(ala Gul, Steyn, Anderson, Rampaul, Zak, Welegedera, Martin etc - not in the same class, but you get the picture), not a debate about player preferences - hence the attention he's getting. Those statistics are factual, even if you wish they were false, but unfortunately the inclusions of Rainsford, Mutendera & Matambandzo were uavoidable, due to the fact they also played for Zim, and their superiority wasn't determined by me!

We've had topic on Cremer, Sean Ervine & even Maweni, so one on Jarvis can stay!

In the immediate interests of Zim cricket, Jarvis shouldn't be protected any longer, and must be dropped! That's my point! Unfortunately for as long as he is part of the national team, this post will remain alive for some time to come, because we've got T20 games against SA, T20WC, Bangladesh, Domestic cricket etc, during which he will provide further evidence of his ineptitude at this level! ;) You're welcome to 'utter' insults so maehara can lock it, but since he's proved recently that comments can be removed/deleted, that's the only thing he will have to do!

Let me see here, when Rainsford's ODI stats are viewed against all test playing countries he has taken 28 wickets in 30 matches at an average of 39.21. Against South Africa he averages 42.33, West Indies 44.66, Bangladesh 44.25, Sri Lanka 33.00, and England 18.00. His bowling average away from home is 41.36 so he is hardly a 'road warrior'. I don't think these are the stats of our next bowling saviour. He has played many more ODIs than Jarvis, and against weaker opposition.

hhm wrote:In another post I wrote that something was very fishy! Implying that deliberate strategies were being employed to limit the chances of success for certain players, while other are shown favour. With the way failed avenues continue to be exhausted, in an attempt to protect Jarvis, or conceal his mediocrity, I am resigned to the belief that this is entirely true.

-Price, Utseya & Shingi were used in the optional batting powerplay - no Jarvis(premier bowler); Elton & Price used in the optional bowling powerplay – once again, no Jarvis(premier bowler). As a result only Elton & Shingi got canned. Jarvis clearly receiving protection!
-How on earth can you have a lower order bat like Oram fresh from a wicket that's just fallen, and not unleash your 'trusted seamer' on him! Instead, you task Hami. Is Jarvis carrying the bowling, or is the rest of the bowling carrying him?
-Jarvis last bowled in the 10th over, the score was 49/0. By the 32nd over, the score was 200 and he wasn't even brought on, even for just one over!
-Jarvis only resumed bowling in the 42nd over! By that time the score was 261/4!
-Even then, he contributed towards the 111 runs which were scored in that period, including the worst over of the match(48th - 25runs) largely at the hands of a 19yr old!!!!!!
-48 runs off 4overs!! That's pathetic, I don’t care what you say!
-His average now sits at 46.62 after 15ODIs, and his economy 6.27. Surely for someone who's meant to be the leading light for us against top quality opposition cannot be allowed to persist with such stats against them!!!!! (Mupariwa just had a game recenlty - better bet?)

In his defense, some of you may want to argue, that Taylor may have reasoned that he's reserving him for the last ten overs. Don't be foolish, save it!!!! It was long evident that the game is beyond us! The role of your premier fast bowler is to take wickets at crucial times - Hami was preferred instead!

THE BOY IS SIMPLY POOR & INEFFECTIVE! FOR CRYING OUT LOUD – DROP HIM!!!!

In the Zimbabwe's entire ODI playing history, of anyone who's bowled at least 15 innings, Jarvis' average is among the worst! He comfortably sits second worst among the worst economy rates for the same assessment! Even if we lump him with bowlers/part-timers who haven't bowled more innings than him, he's still SHIT, and his economy looks in place with the mediocre options! Comparatively, Hamilton is clearly of better value than Jarvis as a bowler!

Of all the talk of dropping Hamilton, Matsi & Regis, Jarvis is most deserving! He continues to he hidden during crucial times in Tests & ODIs, but the results remain appalling! Taylor himself missed the trick once again by not playing himself as an opener. Indirectly, he may be impacting the chances of Waller, who continues to fail in the easy middle order!

I'm sorry guys, but your defense of Jarvis is wrong, and your hopes severely misplaced! You're welcome to dispute this - the proverbial head dipped in sand, but there's only one eventuality to this – egg in face once it's out!
I have to agree with you. I found some of the bowling changes puzzling and counter productive.
The bowling was pedestrian. Why is utseya in this team? He offers no variations and the ground must be super big for him to be effective.
Meth should lead this attack because only he can create early chances and create much needed doubt in the batters minds resulting in wickets for himself or the team.
Also there should be no respite for the batters bowling him through to the 20 overs.
How much Rob Nicol and Guptill must have relished this meth-free attack having succumbed to doubt on earlier occasions.

If Meth is going to 'lead' the attack, Taylor certainly has to get his 10 overs out of the way as quickly as possible because we all know how ineffective he his with an oldish ball.

As for the topic, we drop KJ who replaces him and will this replacement do better?? I personally would like to stick with these young guns for a while. Mpofu, Vitori, Meth, KJ, Rainsford, Querl in that order are the seamers I would like to see in the team.
Vusi, Mawoyo, H.Masakadza, Taylor, Ervine, Williams, Mutumbami, S.Masakadza, Meth, Price, Jarvis

I totally agree. But at least Zim will stand a chance by then.(20 overs)
