Chatara can’t bat, cant field, is Injury prone and bowls wayward. Lots of wides.
He used to bowl 135ish now it’s about 120.
No front line bowlers bowl 120, only batting all rounders bowl that.
And the frontline bowlers that do bowl 125 odd rely on extreme accuracy. Chatara doesn’t. He is expensive.
I understand Chats wanting to be a part of the World Cup qualifiers but if he doesn’t retire now he will be in embarrassment to himself territory.
At his age, with his body failing him, there is no coming back, it’s the end.

How come Muzarabani doesn't seem as effective anymore? Our bowlers often seem to get worse over time, not better.

If there were any set of fans that didn't deserve this pain all over again, it were the Zimbabwean cricket fans. Netherlands and Scotland don't have such a big fan base, may be not even Ireland... Most people in Netherlands won't even know that there is a CWC going on let alone follow it... And cricket will never be able to compete with Football and other sports in which these nations are so good at.
In Netherlands, Scotland, Ireland, it's more about feeling bad for the players and staff rather than the fans.
But as fate would have it, once again it is us who are left to pick the pieces and wonder about the future of ZC. The fact that Netherlands with a severely depleted side were able to make the WC shows their Work Ethics, their belief, and the good work their board does despite getting much much lesser funding than ZC.
While ZC have done some good things in the last 12 months, at the end of the day, it was a little too late to get things absolutely right. It is years of bad work that has to be corrected now and 12 months is surely not enough. We continue to live in hope...

Concentrate on Zimbabwe residents?jaybro wrote: ↑Sat Jul 08, 2023 4:18 am
Concentrate on the blokes who are here, not some random cricketer struggling to make it in England with some Zim heritage.

Aged 28 with 11 first class game and a bowling average of 40 and batting average of 5 …….
You can see why I get frustrated that the same people who call Chatara a donkey will call for the likes of Melton like he’s a messiah![]()
Definetely a way to pursuit, provided..........
.......Provided CZ would be serious about that!
I proposed in this forum that with HALF the money yearly received by ICC, 200 players + 50 between coaches and umpires would be hired with a steady monthly salary which can be on the average 1.000 $ a month. (Do the math, it's feasible). Someone would make 1.500$ (or more) someone else 500$ (but no less).
The aim is to have a couple of hundrted professional players who play cricket 12 months a year in local tournaments (all formats).
Two benefits for sure:
1. in a bunch of 200 committed professional local players you surely find (at least) 15-20 who may become, in short time, part of the national squad and make Zimbabwe back competitive in the international competitions
2. 200 professionals who make a living out of cricket is the sure way to obtain, in a short period of time, at least a couple of thousands new kids who try to imitate them by having the real chance to become professional cricketers in the future.

Re: Where to from here?
I haven't really posted since 'the defeat' mostly because about half of the reaction posts on here have been absolute drivel. Like mind-bogglingly so.
When do we next play? Pray to god we play soon and start wining matches again so we can be spared some of these hot takes.

Look guys I don't know about Melton and all but Chatara isn't the answer either. It is a fact that Zimbabwe needs some bowlers to step up. Chatara has got far more games than some of his compatriots so if he is not doing well esp in tournaments as important as the WCQs then he will be questioned.
Even Raza is questioned for being dumb on many occasions although that doesn't mean we don't respect him. Got to say things as they are.
Yes Blessing is an exception. He had a poor tournament too but with Blessing he has age on his side and he is one of those guys who we rate very highly and we know is having great potential. So we can't compare Blessing with Chatara.
All in all Zimbabwe do need some young players to shine through. Wheather they come locally or from the Counties, I really don't care.

Chatara is surely finished? Can anyone really see him turning things around at this point? At the very least he needs to toil in domestic cricket for a bit and establish some consistently good performances before being given another chance.
