Don't discount mutombodzi bowling. He has a good googly and though not in Cremer class can actually get good turn and bounce

350 for 6 is a tremendous job well done. The real number is 400, because most drawn Tests happen with a first innings score of 400+ (not batting out X number of overs).
425 is on the cards, 450 is possible. Especially with 1 front line batsmen left in Regis.

They've learnt from their mistakes, brilliant century by Williams and good contributions from Raza and Brendan... In a cricket game you win or lose by scoring or not scoring runs, Zimbabwe made the mistake of not scoring enough runs in the first test which ultimately cost them the game, despite playing well in that first test.

Mutombodzi can bat. He has played at that ground countless times. This is his best chance of ever becoming a regular. With the way Hami was talking Wesley and Milton will probably be in the team as soon as the tournament ends. A lot of spinners have been put on notice. If he doesn't do well in this test he might be done. He bowls better than Burl but Burl bats better than him at the moment. Tricky one.
The generation with PJ Chatara Kasuza and Mutombodzi has really disappointed so far. Only Chatara has made a name for himself. This is how the senior batsmen got so comfortable. No competition.

That's a very accurate assessmentTapsC wrote: ↑Tue Jan 28, 2020 4:03 amMutombodzi can bat. He has played at that ground countless times. This is his best chance of ever becoming a regular. No competition has led to mediocre performances, I think this is one of the very few times Zimbabwe cricket has a few upcoming players, we could see a truly transformed side by 2022, Personally i would like to see a transformation in the bowling department mainly seam bowling i feel we do not give enough chances to any upcoming seam bowlers we have persisted with Tirapano ,Jarvis , Chatara for far too long recently just droped Mpofu which was a welcomed move.

Who are the up and coming players? How do you have an up and coming player who’s been in a system for a number of years that doesn’t play any cricket?
It’s a genuine question, I’m not being facetious.

I accept that Kasuza and Masvaure have not done badly, but they’ve been around a while and they’ve batted on the friendliest deck imaginable. People have decided that’s the opening partnership solved and that’s far from the case. We’re yet to see Mumba, and Nyauche has been good. These guys have been around a while, people are calling for change, but no one is blaming ZC for not having selected them if they were that sharp, they’re busy cussing the supposed washed up has-beens they want to replace.
Potentially up and coming players are Madhevere, Ndlela, Myers, Shumba, Schardendorf and Nyangani.
There’s talk of jumping a couple of these guys from U19 straight into the national side. The odds of that working out and one of them being a revelation are slim. Only a broken excuse of a system doesn’t give them time in FC, List A and A team cricket.
I don’t know whether our national side will be in Bangladesh when Derbyshire arrive, but they must just pick a side of young and not so young hopefuls that some mystery person has denied them of opportunities and see how they go. It’s a simple exercise. The last thing we want to see is an A side padded out with guys who’ve played international cricket, we’ve seen all of them already. Roll out the new guys now that we’ve supposedly turned a corner and we’re flush with good players and let’s see how they go.

Lets establish a definition for this first. An upcoming player is someone who has enough talent and potential to make to the big stage and likely become a permanent feature in the Zimbabwe national cricket set up.
Thats my list of upcoming players.
Wes madhevere, Shumba, Dion Myers, Munyonga, Tshuma, Ndlovu, Musakanda,Nyangani,Mudzinganyama,Nyauchi. Schadenoff, Murray, Ives,Kamunhukamwe
