[Match Thread] New Zealand v Zimbabwe: 3rd ODI
Re: [Match Thread] New Zealand v Zimbabwe: 3rd ODI
I can't think of what our guys should do here. Even if they go 8 an over we'll lose by 80. Taibu looks like he is trying to secure his Test spot. Which might be a fair thing to do in the circumstance.

The thing with Matsi though, is he will always be there or thereabouts when it comes to team selection. This is because ou selectors have not bothered with looking at new options and feel that they can make the decision to stick with what they know.
Charles Coventry would have been good on this tour, small boundaries and he can send them all over the place.

Beats me, he didnt do too badly with the ball, but i think they felt they wanted a batter. Matsi is not that man.

I do think you have a point hhm, and I did allude to the proverbial batton being passed on, and we seem to have skipped a gen. I must admit I have lavited from one side to the other (I'll call that flexibility, and call it a good trait!hhm wrote:.... Mupariwa, Mpofu(ok, injured), Rainsford & Panyangara have coped much better, in tougher conditions for seamers, against much better lineups! For how long will people here continue to act as if none of that is true. Must Zimbabwe cricket continue suffer because of certain individuals'(coaches&selectors) loyalty to Jarvis&Vitori![]()

Problem is Rainsford was injured when we made the Test comeback (and accompanying ODIs), Shingi despite being a very good strike bowler still needs to master control. Mupariwa has only recently come back to FC, goodness knows why (I asked before and no one has ever answered). Panyangara, we must really be careful here. He has not been bad, but hardly amazing. We must also bear in mind we are talking of two players here, a pre and post break.
TEST: 8.Price 9.Jarvis 10.Rainsford 11.Mpofu
ODI and Circus: 7. Chigs 8.Jarvis/Vitori/Chatara/Ncube 9.Rainsford/Shingi 10.Mpofu 11. Price
A Tours/ Warm up matches: rotate amongst Shingi, Vitori, Chatara, Ncube, Querl, Muzhange, Nicolson (not that he has earned it, but I believe there may be something there) Meth (I do like his swing, but there is something missing and its not just pace)
You need to blood the youngsters so we need one of them coming through, but maybe not as a bunch as we have been doing. They are the next gen, so we can't afford to have them just all of a sudden exposed when the current crop (Mpofu, Shingi and Rainsford) all disappear.
Battingwise our hand was forced by the egotistic stand on Vusi's misdemeanors, there were alternative forms of punishment without having to embarrass the nation. Nuff said! ...ok not quite enough, having self-dealt ourselves a horrible hand, Taylor should have had more guts to step in, or as happened today, Tino should have bridged the gap (didn't make much, but at least our opening pair lasted more than 5 overs, and look what Taylor's coming in at 3 has done....too little too late I know, but if only they had seen what I saw ages ago.....

I thought they rested him to give Vitori a run.bayhaus wrote:What happened to Shingi?

Not that I agree much about what you say about Jarvis hhm, and yes early days yet, but am I reading things right, even the suffering Vitori has a better average AND strike rate AND economy than Jarvis?.....just a useless aside from me, but it came as a shock...eugene, I don't believe that's your answer, but stats would say so!hhm wrote:.....and his CV is full of instances where those assets have worked to his and Zimbabwe's advantage more than countless other player who lack themZIMDOGGY wrote:he makes batsman very uncomfortable when hes bowling well; can bowl a quick 135+ inswinging yorker to penetrate an international openers middle stump; can make the breakthrough when no one else does; he has that x factor.
I couldn't agree more! When I look at his magnificent average, how superior his economy rate is, and just how much he towers over our fringe & part-time bowlers, I see a star in the making!Jemisi wrote:Jarvis has 14 wickets in 4 tests, 18 wickets in 16 ODIs, 6 wickets in 4 T20Is, hardly a lack of wickets. It would be nice if he'd taken 50 by now instead of 38, but he'd be getting compared to Streak if he'd done that.

Morning guys - just tuned in, score looks familiar, but looking forward to Taylor score a few.
And just as I'm typing this Waller plays a beatiful shot and brainlessly runs himself out. Ouch!
