Re: Zimbabwe cricket quiz
Surely. Desai is certainly an Indian name. I gather Rhodesian cricket was less segregated than SA's when it comes to the inclusion of Asians, but they sure wouldn't pick a black African? So it must be post-independence.aydee wrote:Surely of India origin...hhm wrote:I've got Kishore Desai. CricketArchive, Cricinfo.
And of course it's not Bvute either

Re: Zimbabwe cricket quiz
Almost forgot my own question here. I'll give you my answer, if anyone cares. The first black first-class cricketer in Zim was, to my knowledge, Ethan Dube, who later served as an administrator for Matabeleland.
After representing ICC Associate's Young Cricketers at the youth WC 1978/88 and a smattering of matches against touring sides that were not considered FC, he made his first-class debut at a most unusual venue: Headingley, May 16th 1990, against Yorkshire. http://cricketarchive.com/Archive/Score ... 52717.html
At least, that's what I think. Feel free to correct me if I'm wrong.
