Disaster. People have to remember SA and NZ are coming this year as well. You would hope at least 2 of these guys stood up and be counted. Ideally from these guys what we are looking for is an opening pair who can smother the threat plus 2 of them who can at least support the big 3. Then a keeper who can get some runs. With Gumbie effectively out, I think Mayavo is doing just enough at the moment because he is a better keeper than the rest but he is scoring the same 20s and 30s his competition would probably score.

. Well where there is a crisis there is opportunity. A lot of the guys who aren't expected to be picked are playing in the next game. Get a score there and you are immediately in with a chance of going to Bangladesh initially. You never know. Tanu, or both Matthews could get a score. Naqvi probably will but we all know the story there. Prince is another one who im expecting something from
What you're saying here is worrying. The weather is clearing up and the next game the conditions are likely to be easier.
What's a good score to get a batter noticed? 15? 20?
They're going to experiemce the same problems.
Naqvi would not have made runs this last game. Let's see next game.
One more time- our bowling was the main issue.

Recall Evans.

Where was all the dukes propaganda last year when we played the Ireland test, they do use them

Literally, and I mean literally, nobody cared back then

Very embarrassing performance and not reflective of the true state of the teams. I’ve watched Durham enough to know they’re not much better than our next best lot. Very disappointing performance that makes that T20 last year sting even more. It’s not reflective but certainly seems that way to the average fan of cricket. Makes us look like complete muppets. I’m not much of a fan with regards to Evans’ personality, but it’s criminal he’s not in the side here. Same level or better bowler than Blessing and Richie in the longer format for sure.

Perhaps we can fit in three tests at Trent Bridge over the 5 days?
Maybe this will give the English impetus to lobby for Zimbabwe's inclusion in the WTC. They gotta have someone they can beat

Mavayo seems to be putting up his hat for selection for the England test. Certainly done enough to be going the Bangladesh for now.

Not to sound like I am taking a dump on Mayavo, but surely there are better options. He's in his 30s now and averages 26 in the Logan Cup after 80-odd matches. Shouldn't be anywhere near team tbh.

The truth is none of the available wicketkeepers are of international standard (yet). Can Chakabva be convinced to come back for a bit while we figure things out? And by the way, I see a lot of people on this forum clamouring for Matthew Welch to be given a run as keeper for his franchise, is his keeping really that much better than Gumbie, Madande and Marumani? His batting numbers are way more attractive than all three.

That being said, at what point does a constantly repeating phenomenon stop becoming a "one-off" anomaly and start to reflect the on the ground reality? As a rehash...UAE weren't as good, still got the win. Scotland were more or less an equivalent side, they still got the win. Uganda wasn't even on the map, they got the win. Then there's various Test matches against Ireland and Afghanistan in the past couple of years. There aren't that many counter examples I can think of, perhaps the win against Pakistan at the world cup, and maybe the Test win in Bangladesh or ODI series win in Sri Lanka.

ZC are said to be massively mismanagers...but if the team's performance isn't reflective of their true state, then isn't that saying that ZC have been doing a statisfactory job the past 25 years?

A terrible performance which shows how far off many of our batsmen are. It is amazing that while touring teams are racking up 400-500 our batsmen are supposedly simply victims of some unplayable bowling and tough batting conditions. Does every team save their best bowling for us? Does every bowler have a special 'Zimbabwe' ball they only reveal when playing in Harare or Bulawayo?
