Basically if SA beat Pakistan and we do mission impossible nobody else would be able to get more than 6 points

Some people here are greedy with their expectations, by all metrics this has already been a successful world cup for Zimbabwe.
We got through to the super 12s and made a splash on a world stage and gained significant attention. When was the last time that happened... 2003?

India beat Pak on the last ball.
ZIM beat PAK on the last ball.
Ergo India = Zimbabwe

I agree regarding high expectations. It's disappointing in the context of the match but I can look back at this WC with pride, which is something we dont get to say often, in any format. If anything this WC has re-invigorated the love for the sport in Zim, which is what you need.
Having said that we have to beat Netherlands, anything else is unacceptable lol..

That India's loss today has nullified our loss now ..cause even if we would have won today we still would had to win against India in the last game ..most likely it's going to be India vs zimbabwe for the second spot in the last game and i will be really happy that till the last game of the super 12 we were in hunt for semis

There was a good feature on Ervine on Kayo (Aus TV) and all the players spoke highly of his captaincy and how he views the game. I don't blame Ervine too much for the loss. Yes, questions about why Wes bowled two overs and Blessing didn't bowl out, but in reality that's not what lost us the match.secretzimbo wrote: ↑Sun Oct 30, 2022 10:05 am
Ervine's captaincy is poor. it has been poor all year, which we have pointed out on this forum on many different occasions. Off the field I'm sure he si perfect due to his level headedness and calmness. But on the field? He doesn't have half the cricketing brain that either Willo or Regis have. it baffles me why neither of them are captain. Captaincy cost us today.
Do kind of agree with this in terms of his batting. Would have been handy today, but I don't see his value with the ball. If anything, I would havesecretzimbo wrote: ↑Sun Oct 30, 2022 10:05 am
Not picking Jongwe was madness. Why would you change the team at all after that fantastic result against Pakistan? Jongwe has been criminally underused with the ball throughout this tournament, and he's a capable bat. Really strange selection. Could have made the difference today.
chosen him over Shumba or Chatara.
Our problem has always been our philosophy. We only ever see the game as go big or go home. We don't know how to rotate the strike. This can in turn easily turn games in our favour and help players to get in positions to up their strike rate.secretzimbo wrote: ↑Sun Oct 30, 2022 10:05 amOur absolute biggest problem in this format is SR. Every other country now doesn't even look at Averages in this format - it's all about SR's. Ours are terrible. How does Milton Shumba get in this team? he's a talented boy and he'll have a good future in longer formats, but in this format? Crazy. 17 T20I's this calendar year and his SR is 95. Shockingly bad.
Ervine's career SR is only just above a run a ball.
Problem with Regis is that no other wicketkeeper has stepped up. I've been calling for him to be dropped, but I don't see any other stepping up.secretzimbo wrote: ↑Sun Oct 30, 2022 10:05 amRegis remains one of my favourite players, but this is clearly his worst format too. I am expecting Ervine and Williams to retire from T20I's after this competition, but I think Regis should consider it too. All three will remain crucial parts of our ODI and Test teams but maybe now will be the time to give opportunities to others.
We definitely don't pick the exact same XI, however we do not have the depth that other nations have. We also don't train players for formats like other countries do. Not picking Marumani was criminal. He definitely should have been in this squad even if he is still a bit raw. I do agree about specialists, however, we have not really been blessed with players who can step up. For all the talk about Zhuwao, Jakiel, Madziva, K-long...none of them proved themselves or cemented a spot, so we always had to go back to the same old reliables.secretzimbo wrote: ↑Sun Oct 30, 2022 10:05 amIt will be interesting to see what Dave does with the T20 side beyond this tournament. We must be the only country that picks exactly the same XI in all three formats? Time to find some specialists and give people a chance in this format especially. Marumani obviously, but also Munyonga has potential as a big hitter, Madande too. There are others locally who may be worth blooding into this format going forward.
I don't think it's greedy. These players have put themselves in very winnable positions only to throw them away. We've seen them be capable of some big things, so to see us lose games in the manner we did gives us every right to be frustrated. It's also every right to feel frustrated when players are continually making the same errors or not performing.
It's great to have perspective, but we shouldn't be the kind of side of who accepts that we got to a point no one expected of us so we should be content with that.

Shumba should have been dropped move Burl or Jongwe to hit 3rd if they didn't want to meas with the lineup
Chakabva..the so called finisher faced more 15 balls without a boundary is criminal
Burl not bowling at number 7 is ridiculous why not put Welly Masakadza who can bowl and bat a little...

Shumba has to go for sure, hate to say this but he has kind of regressed, or may be he is just playing the wrong format.
Not selecting Marumani means that basically there is no good replacement so they have to go back to Munyonga. Which won't make much of a difference, but it can be tried again.
Jongwe in for Chatara for sure, One thing about Jongwe is that he is a clean striker unlike many other Zim Batters, and henl usually plays with a lot of passion, he has been underutilized with the ball.
