A key person going forward is Kaia. I look at him as the person who replaced Regis with the bat. Why he doesn't get a full run the way Wes does baffles me. He is way better than Wes and Marumani and Shumba etc but he is always the first to be dropped. A top 3 in ODIs of Gumbie, Kaia and Welch is probably our medium term future. They need to play him more.

People might say an everyday of 27 is crap but given our situation up the order and the fact that all those kids up the order are averaging below 20. It makes sense. That or move Madande up the order.

Interesting point about the domestic league not being strong enough to create pressure situations. That needs to change. How can they turn this around quickly?

I was thinking maybe they can create a higher level List A and T20 competition to add to what they have. We could do this by turning those regional games into a bigger competition.

For example we can have Northerns, Southerns, Namibia 'A', Uganda, Nigeria and Kenya. Maybe even ask the South Africans to add their 'emerging' team as well. We have seen that they have been cramping games into small windows. The T20 could last a week and then List A could last 2 weeks.

That's just an extra 3 weeks of cricket. This would mean our best 30 players can make those 2 regional squads and play in a more competitive short format competition than what they have. There will also be a direct pathway all the way from the club leagues to the NPL to this tournament. 4 levels to get through before you reach the national team. Just an idea.

Fair point. But as we've seen at the qualifiers, the world of associate cricket is pretty cut throat. You're almost always playing for something. Often, success and failure can be the difference between the board being able to fund contracts or not.

Very few series like this Ireland one, where there is absolutely nothing on the line, from a broader context point of view.

Not really. Not to me anyway.
Because as I’ve said countless times Zimbabwe drop down to whatever teams level and show them undue respect when it’s a pressure environment.

If they played a one off T20 now they would blow them out of the park and see them as pissants

But because it was in a meaningful tournament they treated them like Australia.
Whom they beat last time they played mind you.
