Sad that the white folk foot the bill????? F&%^ me!!!! If they hadn't done that there was no cricket, which is more sad? I think you've answered the question, you'd rather have had nothing going on. You always have to dream up an ulterior motive because you can't see it happening without one. Please get real. ZC should have some money from the WC for a brief period before they steal it, so going forward in the short term they will be able to follow the master plan of black cricket empowerment once again because it has reaped such rewards so far. In the meantime we (and I use that term loosely because many black folk think the same, millions of them in fact, as evidenced by the fact that they don't actually live here anymore) will quietly continue to vote with our feet because guys with your way of thinking are in charge of important shit that you shouldn't be.

SpitfiresKent wrote:Thanks for the insight on Nick Welch Googly. Can you elaborate a bit more on that net session he had with the Eagles?

You seem to have good knowledge of the younger ZIM players, what's the status of both Bentley and Byrom?

Also, have you seen Tinashe Nenhunzi play? I've heard he's good.
Well he was a small 14 year old white boy in a poorly prepared net with 6 Eagles fast bowlers (fast is a relative term for a 14 year old) and Vitori (who genuinely is fast and dangerous when he bends his back) under the hostile, slightly contemptuous, slightly amused scrutiny of 20 senior players wondering what the white boy thought he was up to, with the pushy dad standing guard. That is a situation that 99% of quality 18 year old bats would have wilted under. Before long they realized he could really play and was expecting no quarter and they were running in hard and banging it in. He probably went out twice in that unbelievably hostile period and we realized then and there that we had witnessed something very special indeed. I watched him very carefully when he took his helmet off when he came out of the net and he was actually angry, no hint of fear or trepidation, or relief that it was over, just anger that he had been worked over. That was when the penny dropped that we were watching somebody a bit different. He earned some begrudging respect almost immediately and subsequently cemented that with some great innings against our best bowlers. At Club level he even had the audacity to go after Panyangara and Chatara with great success. He's a big strong young man now with a huge skill set and I believe has a big career ahead of him. It's a great pity that he has left because I believe he's practically ready for international cricket but will have to fight his way through the English ranks. If he gets the breaks he will make it over there, if he doesn't I'm sure he will come back here and do very well, if he survives the prejudice.

Ed Byrom is another very very talented player. He is probably technically slightly better than Nick, but lacks self belief. He bats too slowly but he has all the shots. He resorts to nudging and noodling way too often, and doesn't do himself any justice. If he does that at Somerset he won't feature as he's now in a big talent pool. I think he's good enough to see that and to change his game and that this is his year to shine. I think English conditions will suit him. If he doesn't adapt he won't get too many chances as there are plenty of good players. Basically he needs to change his game a bit to do well and I would take a bet that he will manage the transformation but it won't be easy. He loves to slip into that anchor, save the Test match role and he needs to forget that stuff. He has practiced hard for years and deserves big success. Again, like Nick, the English system is working for him. They've realized he's real quality and are giving him some big opportunities and he's taking them with both hands.

I haven't seen Bentley for a while. The last time I watched him he was ok, but was no more than a decent club cricketer. If you go overseas and don't get into a County set up or academy you are not going to get the quality coaching, you are basically on your own. If he's back here he may do ok at franchise if he can get a game, but the jury is not in for me on him. Nice guy though.

I haven't seen Tinashe. I believe he's at Falcon? His stats don't look fantastic. Unless they work on him 4 days a week he's going nowhere.

He's on scholarship in Durban like Ndlovu and the youngest Mupariwa before him. Got selected for KZN for the CSA U15 week, but I'm not sure how he did there.

It's a crying bastard when black players get a scholarship, hey Gargamel. Imagine they hadn't gone on a tour funded by desperate white folk, those guys wouldn't have been noticed and would be locked in here playing second rate cricket and going nowhere.

Googly very touchy as usual on the race issues. But lets be honest its tough for white folk in Zim and the future for the kids isnt so bright as things stand. I want you to be honest and tell the truth what hope do some of these lads have in making a living in Zimbabwe a proper decent comforatble living that they are accustomed to post leaving the mummy and daddy's nest. The truth is these lads stand a better shot at getting a shot in life but heading back to Europe and some of these lads have ancestral ties to the UK and will become naturalised Brits and get decent jobs in the UK and come home to ZIM for a good jol.

As for the scholarship issues you may huff and puff about how this is not the case but go and speak to any white young players and he will tell you im planning to head on to the UK 90% of the time. I want you to realize that the white players use the system to get to the next level because of the resources and connections that my black brothers dont get a chance due to our backgrounds. Its the black boy who steams in at cover who puts in the dive who does the hard yards in training who makes the white boy look good before he heads off to England. Its the black boy who will play injured will bat first and be the sacrificial lamb to blunt the new ball before the white boy comes in to score big runs. There is no difference with our colonial history white man will ride on the black boys back till he drops.

As for coach Tinker what a joke of a developmental coach just another guy trying to make a buck.I was at the Nambian under 19 games and that man divides those boys on racial lines and dosnt inspire confidence. He undermines his assitant coach who has a first class hundred by advising his skipper not to listen to instructions from the black assistant coach thus undermining his authority

I will try and keep this short because I don't think we are going to agree on much. When two people can view the same event and have an entirely different opinion (like 180 degree different then there's not much point in discussing anything.
Most times leaving the comfortable nest is a thing of the past. Times are hard here. I think you'll find there are a lot of black families a lot better off than their white counterparts. Their kids are heading overseas to greener pastures just as quickly.
Back to Europe/Britain or whatever is offensive. Most of my family and friends are third and 4th generation Zimbabwean. There are many black families that can't claim that, I've heard that even our President is of Malawian descent?
Without question more blacks have fled to Britain than whites and are becoming naturalized Englishmen. That statement is blatantly wrong.
Your next statements prove you to be an overt racist.

I happen to know about that Namibian U19 game. Your friend Mr T is a loud mouthed incompetent man. Who appointed him as assistant coach? It was an overnight appointment because he was nobody the day before and should remain a nobody at Eaglesvale and continue inspiring racial hatred amongst his students as far as I am concerned. He pitched up that morning and announced that he had authority to over ride Mr Tinker's team selection, which he duly did, and the team subsequently lost. Why? Because he knows absolutely nothing about cricket whatsoever. Somehow he is continually appointed as an age group selector to fulfill the racial quota. I despise everything he stands for. He has not a vestige of common decency or manners. Teams will generally be divided along racial lines, it's the nature of the beast, and is perpetuated by people such as yourself and Terri, if you are not one and the same. Actually the division is usually more along the lines of Gov versus private schools more so than race these days. Class always finds a way!!
Please tell me how an appointed coach undermines an assistant coach???? As I pointed out he pitched up out of the blue with a mystery mandate which he chose to exercise. The assistant is supposed to take instruction from the coach the last time I checked, not the other way around. I've watched T play and if he has a first class hundred the opposition must have had Ebola. Who cares anyway, he still knows less than nothing and his special brand of racial vitriol should be swept out the door along with his boss, NS.

The one thing we agree upon googly is that things are tough on both sides I keep it to cricket and what I see is our kids have it tough and I have no problem with the kids going away to make their way in life its what is required . If a lad has the chance to get a scholarship so be it let him go as a parent I want what is best if its south Africa or Britain let it be so as there are no future prospects for kids in zim at the moment and I wish my black brothers had the same opportunities as the white boys that's all if they had they would be flocking to the UK I hope you take note that I'm limiting my comments to the cricket community.

To call me an overt racist I take some offence. The assistant coach on the tour of Namibia was Alois Tichana and he has more first class credentials than Tinker who I acknowledge as one of the more qualified coaches in Zimbabwe. The issue I have with Tinker is that the man has an agenda to promote the divisions which may be racial or be based on school category but what he did to me was wrong to instruct the skipper not to take advice from coach Tichana who based on his knowledge of the ground and most of the black players strengths most who were part of the cubs week in SA. I understand that both men have an interest to be the substantive under 19 coach and its the politics of campaign ing to be the man in 2016.

As for Terri you need to take him in certain limited dosesn? He is loud and has an opinion that he wants to express it was wrong for him to influence the game day squad he undermined both coach Tinker and Tichana which was wrong .Terri is reasonably versed on schools crcket being coach at eagles vale he gets to see a number of these kids at tournaments and club cricket where he has discovered gems like mavhuta ,magarira good solid players that we ate eager to see in the future.

I like Terri am frustrated by the loss of talents I honestly think our current under 19 side will not be as good as it coup be without the county based contingent that is Welch, Byrom, Evans and Ives .The frustration comes from picking these boys and working with them for years and losing them them to county cricket acadmeys which is due to the state of our Zimbabwe whether you are indigenous or 4thngeneration its our Zimbabwe.

There's some confusion about the T's. There's Tinker, Tich and Terri.
I have absolutely no problem with Tich, he's a hardworking, really nice guy. You are correct he was the assistant. It was Terri I took offense to coming there on the morning of the second game and changing the team 30 minutes before they played. He's not even offically employed by ZC?? Surely someone needs to find out how this is possible. Not only that, he was actually shouting instructions to the batsman from the side of the field that were contrary to the instructions he'd been given by the coach. Apparently his reasoning was that he knew the player well. If anyone within ZC wants cricket to improve they have to stop this kind of behavior. It would be good to stop this guy attending any cricket whatsoever. His latest trick was actually threatening the CBC coach or umpire with a cricket stump during a game in Bulawayo. That incident should be thoroughly investigated and ideally he needs to be handed a ten year ban from any form of cricket. Instead he's considered to be some sort of cricket liberation hero and given secret mandates to fight the good fight. Thirty years of independence and 10 years of cricketing independence and he still thinks there's a war on?? I've watched a few Eaglesvale games vs "white' schools and his special brand of prejudice that he manages to instil in all his players. If he could teach them cricket with the same degree of skill that he manages to hand on his prejudice, school cricket would be healthy. For any external members/readers of this forum, if a a school has one white kid in it then it's considered a white school. St John's is THE white school but is more than 60% black.

I know Tinker was appointed the stand in coach at the last minute because Chawaguta went to Australia as the fielding coach. I'm not sure who appointed him (I wonder if it was Chawaguta himself?) but he becomes the coach and as such he is entitled to run the show as he sees fit. Tich may think he knows the players from Cubs week but if he had a different view on team instructions then the correct protocol would have been to run his ideas through the coach first and not directly to the players. I'd like to see how Mangongo or Chawaguta would have reacted to an assistant over-riding their authority!! I can guarantee it would have ended badly. I was not aware that there was an issue between Tich and Tinks and I'm not sure there was. My insider tells me that Steve Mangongo may actually get the job. I hope so because I want to see him physically assault Terri if he dares open his mouth. If you think Tich knows OH ground better than Tinker you are smoking something bud, Tinker played on that square before Tich was born. If Tich had overridden Mangongo's authority all Steve would have had to do was write a report to ZC stating the fact and it would have set Tich's coaching career back years. If Tinker dared do that I can guarantee he would be out of a job. As a white guy you just have to be a big boy and suck it up. As I said I was unaware of any issues.
If you think coaches should be picked on their prior playing credentials I disagree with you. Firstly that's no reason to exceed your mandate because you perceive that you were actually a better player than the coach, and secondly it seems to be the only sport in the world where it is necessary to have played the sport at international level in order to coach?
What possible reason would Tinker have to promote any divisions? If you promote divisions along racial lines as a white man you lose your job and probably guarantee yourself an interview with CIO or Chinotimba so that is a blatant outright mischievous lie on your part. The real truth is that much that needs to be said goes unsaid because it will be misconstrued as racist. Mischievous people just need to put their hands up and play the race card and they are believed EVERY time. The man is trying to survive and put food on his table and has been fighting people wanting to take his rocky small holding in Christon Bank for many years and is hanging on by a thread and needs his job at ZC like life itself. He's not rocking any boats, believe me. The people there have targeted him because The First Lady has taken the rest of Mazoe and Christon Bank and his rocky outcrop is one of the few remaining bits with a house on that has valuable roof sheeting and window and door frames that can be sold for beer money.
He's a very astute coach whom I rate highly. He has found a few gem black cricketers over the years as well, and helped organize scholarships for them at better Harare schools. He does this quietly without fanfare. A couple of "his" players are now ignored as they are perceived as just that- Tinker's boys. One of them is a stand out player and people are working on him getting the scholarship he deserves in England!! He also quietly nudges a couple of white players along to keep the playing field level and he's alright. He can also be loud and speak out of turn and offend people. I support him. Without him ZC would have absolutely no support whatsoever from white parents and then you would really see them scrabbling around looking at other alternatives. He's a good man and juggles the balls in his court very carefully.
Again I think you are watching a completely different movie to me. Please move on from the race issue. You are very wrong.

Don't take too much credit for Byrom and Welch's ability. They pound thousands of balls a week in their own time and at their own expense and it's not under ZC's watch. Once or twice a year they have to participate in a farcical disgraceful week of trials to get picked for age group stuff and then join the squad for a two days of panicked pre-tour preparation before going to do the best for their country in a team loaded with quota players that aren't going to win much. I'd like to think they've put more in than they've taken out.
Imagine THEIR frustration!!!

I have seen Walter and Tich and a couple of others bend their backs with the sidearm giving Nick and Eddie plenty of practice, so I qualify that a bit. What is most noticeable is the enjoyment bordering on relief when they are throwing to consummately talented batters that are taking them on with a wide array of well grooved shots and there's not much to say and it becomes a contest as opposed to a coaching session. I've seen the enjoyment on everyone's faces and it's how it should be all the time, but sadly reality is different.
